“Easy fix. Quit.”

I laughed. “I happen to love my job.”

“Great. But you might alsolovehim too. So, now you need to decide, Draven or the job. But there is another option you know,” she stated.

“What is that?”Hide my feelings and stay here breaking my own heart?

“Just enjoy it. Don’t stress over it. It is okay for you to be happy at work. I’ve done it several times,” she said.

“And how did that work out for you?” I asked, already knowing the answer. They would have a fight and then she would quit, and the relationship was over. That is not what I wanted to happen.

“I’m different. Just like I can’t stay at a job long, I also can’t be with the same guy for too long either. You on the other hand like longevity. Who knows. Maybe this will be the job you retire from and Draven might be the man you grow old with,” she said.

If he’s even going to speak to me after walking away like that.

“Let’s not look that far ahead. I still have to explain to him why I walked away from him.”

“Hey, you didn’t tell me any of that,” she said.

“Yes I did when I first called you,” I reminded her.

“Oh, you mean when you were crying and I had no idea what the hell you were saying? So let’s try it again without blowing your nose between words. Why did you walk away from him?” she asked.

“Because my hair was wet and I knew he would see my ear. That everyone in the pool area would see it. I…I didn’t want that to happen. So I covered my ear with my hand and walked away.”

“He didn’t say anything?” she questioned.

“He wanted to look at it and make sure I was okay. I told him I was.”

“But you still walked away. I think you should call him and let him know that you’re really okay. Maybe tell him that you had water in your ear and needed to go to your room to get it out, or something like that,” she suggested.

“You want me to lie to him?” I said, shocked.

“Or you can tell him the truth,” she replied.

That wasn’t happening.I’m not ready for that. Not sure I ever will be. Unless you were in the medical field and treated me at the hospital, then you weren’t seeing my ear. Well, Diana did but that was because I lived with her when I got released from the hospital. But that was different. I needed her help.

“Fine. I’ll call him,” I replied in a firm tone.

“Good. Then hang up with me, call him, and then call me back and tell me everything he said,” she instructed.

“No. This is not a movie or a book.”

“Too bad because I would really love to see what is happening between the pages that you’re not letting me read,” she teased.

“Goodbye, Diana.”

Giggling she said, “Bye, Kinsley. Now go kiss and make up with your man.”

Before I could yell at her, she once again ended the call.

You’re not always going to get the last word.

But she was right. I needed to call Draven. He really looked worried about me. That was sweet, even though unnecessary.

I dialed his number, and it went straight to voicemail. Maybe he was making a call. I waited a minute and tried again. Same result. That was strange.

Oh no. He had his phone with him.
