“Good guess. I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Goodnight Diana.”

“Have a great day, Kinsley.”

I ended the call and opened the door. But it wasn’t Draven. It was Bennett. “Hi. I wasn’t expecting you.”

“Can I come in?” he asked.

I nodded. “Sure.” This is when I regretted not allowing Draven to get me a bigger room. My bed wasn’t made, and I had clothes on the floor. Embarrassing, but not the end of the world.

He closed the door behind him and that’s when I realized that something was wrong.

“Bennett, where is Draven?” I asked, my heart in my throat.

“He’s in the hospital,” Bennett said.

“What…what happened?” I asked, sitting down on my bed not trusting my legs to hold me.

“He learned where the suspect was hiding out and was told that the guy planned on leaving the island. Draven and TJ were the closest and went to detain him.”

“Draven went with TJ? Why didn’t he call me?” I asked.

“Because he was going to meet me there. But they arrived a couple of minutes before me. The guy had set a booby trap and there was an explosion. The SUV flipped several times and caught fire. Finn called and said that Draven was unconscious but in stable condition.”

I stood up. “I need to go see him. Can you or TJ bring me please?”

“I will bring you,” he said.

I saw something in his eyes when I mentioned TJ. “Bennett, where is TJ?”

He closed his eyes for a second, then opened them, and the wall he always had up so he was hard to read, had returned. “He didn’t make it.”

I reached out and touched his arm. “I’m so sorry. He…he was a good man.”

“Yes, he was a good man and a great Marine,” he said in a proud tone.

I nodded, then grabbed my cell phone and said, “I’m ready.” That wasn’t true. I was so afraid of what I’d find when we arrived. Stable condition was one thing, but he wasn’t conscious. That was a bad sign.

We rushed to his SUV. I wasn’t one who prayed often, but I was begging God to let Draven be okay.

I couldn’t have found him only to lose him. I haven’t even told him that I love him yet.

There was another vehicle following us close behind. “Someone is following us,” I told Bennett.

“I know. The suspect is still out there. I’m not taking any chances to lose someone else,” he replied.

Normally I’d remind him that I could take care of myself. But for now, I appreciated someone looking out for me, so I could go and look out for Draven.

I kept my eyes wide open and searched for anything that looked out of the ordinary. It wasn’t easy because my heart and mind were focused on Draven.

Please be okay. I know you might not need me, but I need you.

When we arrived at the hospital, Draven was still unconscious. Finn came into the room.

“Is he going to be, okay?” I asked.

“He has slipped into a coma. But all his vital signs are good. He’s strong and healthy, but we still don’t know what damage has been done to his brain. We’ll know more if he wakes up,” he stated.

“When,” I snapped. “When he wakes up,” I corrected him.
