“Anybody ever tell you that you talk too fucking much, Ju?” King asked, shoving his hands in his pockets.

“You. You tell me all the time, King.”

“Anybody ever tell you that you’re beautiful?” He walked in a circle around me, the wind whipping my dress backward.

“You again,” I smiled.

“And anybody ever tell you that even though your man is a king that he always has an ace up his sleeve?” He held out a small black ring box in the palm of his hand and my squeals lit up the night sky. King smiled and opened the box revealing a gorgeous engagement ring. “I was going to do this later when we were alone but you always have to force my hand and shit.”

He knelt in front of me and took my hand, sliding the ring on my finger. “You’re supposed to ask me if I’ll marry you, then slide the ring on once I say yes, King,” I told him through a tearful laugh.

“Why ask when I know the answer?” He stood and hooked his arm around my waist.

“You are so full of yourself.” I grinned shaking my head.

“Tell me I’m wrong and the answer isn’t yes.”

“You’re not wrong, King,” I sighed. “You know the answer is yes. Always yes.”

“Now, tell me who the fuck my wife is.” He rested his forehead against mine and rocked me back and forth.

“I am,” I breathed, staring at the way the diamond sparkled. “I’m going to be.”

“You goddamn right.” He kissed my temple but I wanted his lips on mine. I wanted to taste his tongue and suck on his lips.

“Give me these sexy ass lips, King,” I purred. He tipped me backward and in classic over-the-top, King fashion, he kissed me. My hair swayed in the air, my leg stretched out and my toe pointed to the heavy, full moon. My eyes fell shut because the gravity of his mouth against mine was too much. Too good. Too…everything.

“Juju, can we talk, please?”

Goddammit, I swear Marsh knew how to fuck up a moment. I was knee-deep in a fairytale kiss and here comes his annoying ass. King stood me upright and glared over his shoulder at Marsh.

“You have one more fucking time to interrupt a moment between me and my wife before I shoot you, Marsh. Just giving you a fair warning.”

“Your wife?” Marsh scoffed. “She’snotyour wife.”

“I am.” I flashed my seconds-old ring in his face just to shut him the fuck up. He didn’t need to know that we still needed to have the wedding. All he needed to know was that he didn’t get to dictate anything in my life.

“I-I didn’t know. I’m sorry,” he stammered.

“You didn’t know. Just like your thirsty wife didn’t know you had a side baby. Go fix your house before you start peeping through my windows, Marsh.” King looped his arm with mine and tossed Marsh a Cheshire grin.

“I need that letter by the morning, Marsh.” He tossed up a peace sign and we left the fucking ball.

CHAPTER NINETEEN

“He’s been alone this entire week. He hasn’t done anything to even report on,” Dash, a lower-level king sat in the apartment with me, Pretty Boy, and Juju giving us details on Sumo’s movements for the past week. He hadn’t been doing anything because he knew we’d be observing him.

Juju shook her head and sighed. “I still can’t believe we’re observing fucking Sumo. This shit is wild.”

“Agreed. I’m going to follow King’s lead though,” Dash said with a casual shrug.

“Because that’s your only choice, Dash. The fuck?” I frowned.

“Hey, I’d prefer just shooting the nigga in the head. That’s a choice too,” Dash offered. He was the same age as us and just as willing to lay down his life for the Legion of Kings. Dash needed to be tamed though because he was cocky and he liked to shoot first and ask questions later. I had to watch his ass.

“We’d all prefer that scenario,” Juju said before walking into the kitchen.
