I sucked in a breath and scrunched my face to brace for impact. Jay was putting things together in her head quicker than I was ready for. I didn’t want to explain me joining the Legion of Kings.

“Jupiter! This is right up your rebellious alley. You better not be…you know.” Jay fussed, gritting her teeth.

“Gotta go, Jay. Love you, bye.” I ended the call and my phone rang immediately. I sighed and answered the unknown number. I was used to Jay calling me from the hospital phone when I hung up on her.

“I said I love you, now…”

I was cut off by a familiar, smooth deep voice. “I’m glad to know how you really feel, baby.”

“King?” I pushed out a long breath and stood to my feet.

“I’m outside. Come on,” he laughed.

“How’d you know I was done packing?” I walked over to the window in my room and peered down at the street. King’s shiny black Dodge Charger sat right underneath my window. He flashed the headlights and I couldn’t help but laugh. I opened the window and sat on the ledge, one leg outside and one leg inside.

“You are such a stalker,” I smiled into the phone.

“I know when to show up. How is that stalking?” King asked. I watched him get out of the car and sit on the hood, his head tilted toward me in my room.

“How’d you know when to show up though?”

“Because I’m King motherfucking Pierce. I’m that nigga. Now, bring your fine ass out here so we can go back to my place.”

“I’ll be out there,” I sighed.

“Don’t take forever, Ju. I’ll leave your ass.”

“You won’t. You like fucking me way too much.”

“Okay…that might be true.” He laughed and it was such a deep happy sound. I liked it a lot.

“I know. So, like I said, I’ll be there in a minute.” I ended the call and closed my bedroom window with a grin on my face a mile wide.

CHAPTER ELEVEN

When Ju walked through the apartment door, she was met with cheers and claps from Truck and Pretty Boy. Sumo silently watched her, a scowl fixed to his face. The kings had women lounging around the living room, waiting for the festivities to begin. Friday nights were live for the four kings. If Ju got in, she’d get to experience her first King’s party.

Lower-level kings partied with the four kings, there would weed, pills, liquor, and women. There were always women around when we celebrated. I thought about Juju having men around for her party and my blood boiled hotter.

Fuck that.

She couldn’t have any men around.

I’d be there, that was enough.

“Queen Ju completed her first kill,” Truck exclaimed, a gap-toothed smile brightening his eyes. “I ain’t know if you were going to go through with it.”

“Really, Truck?” She walked over and hugged him tight. He was putty for her. Nuzzling close to her tiny frame like she was a security blanket. “Well, now you know, I don’t fuck around.”

“I gotta give it to you, Juju. You did what you said you’d do and you were clean with it,” Pretty Boy said, raising a red Solo cup in her direction. The chick on his lap eyed Jupiter with clear jealousy marring her face.

“She was clean as fuck. That’s my girl,” Truck kissed Ju’s cheek and she grinned.

“Truck, I love you. You’re so sweet.” She stood up and looked around, noticing the women. Truck’s girl for the night looked at Jupiter like she wanted to cower when she came out of the kitchen with a full cup.

“Hi,” the girl said. I didn’t even know her name. She was short but still taller than Jupiter with brown hair and expressive eyes that showed how uncertain she was around Jupiter. I liked watching the interaction because I wanted to know what kind of energy Ju gave off. If she was going to be a king, she had to have big alpha energy.
