Sara’s head turns, and our cheeks lightly brush. We stay there for a moment, the soft touch making my breath hitch. I realize wearing my regular lounge pants was a foolish idea this morning because I’m already stiff against Sara’s ass.

“Don’t let them burn,” Tessa whispers, and Sara snaps her attention back to the stove.

“There’s plenty to share. And we made coffee already,” she tells me while gesturing to the machine.

I turn away from the peanut gallery and busy myself with caffeine, and when my hard-on has gone down, and I’ve sweetened my coffee, I lean against the counter and watch Sara work.

She’s efficient; there’s a stack of crepes that the women help themselves to, and soon I have a plate and am slathering Nutella on a crepe. When she pours the last of the batter, Sara makes her own plate, spreading almond butter on the crepe and rolling it up like a cigarette.

“A sweet breakfast taquito,” Jade comments. “Nice.”

“What are you doing today?” Sara asks me.

I shake my head. “Working. I’m in a groove.”

Sara’s grin is wide. “I’m glad. We’ll be back around five for happy hour. I might light the fire pit since it’ll be chilly tonight.”

“Come say hi when you get back.”

“Really?” she asks, wrinkling her nose. “I don’t want to interrupt your work.”

She’s got a bit of almond butter on her lip; the warm crepe melted it, and it dripped out as she ate it. I want to lick it off, but instead, I use my thumb to wipe it away and then lick my thumb.

“You’re not interrupting. You’re inspiring.”

We hold each other’s gaze until Jade lets out a puff of air. She starts fanning herself, and Emma is looking anywhere but at us while Tessa’s a little flushed.

“I feel like I should call Luc,” she says.

“I could cut the sexual tension with a wet noodle,” Jade says. Whatever that means. “Please, Sara, for god’s sake, ditch us and bang that man.”

Sara’s cheeks turn crimson, and Tessa snorts.

“I’m not ditching y’all.”

“Wouldn’t blame you if you did,” Jade says.

“Well, I’m not.”

Jade turns more toward me. “Do we need to bring anything back for you? Lube? Condoms?”

Emma chokes on her coffee, and Tessa has to pat her back until she settles down.

“No, I’m fully stocked, thanks,” I manage. I would really love to introduce Jade to Alwin.

“And that’s enough of that,” Sara chastises. “Go upstairs and finish getting ready to go.”

“I am ready,” Jade says.

“Go brush your teeth,” Tessa says, steering the other two out of the room, leaving Sara and me alone.

Sara’s eaten her crepe standing up, and I press her back against the counter, crowding her and reveling in her small gasp and the narrowing of her eyes on my mouth. I press into her, harder and hotter than last night, knowing that I’ll have to make it quick because I don’t want to be that asshole that pulls her away from her friends.

But I was fooling myself, thinking I could make it quick. When Sara’s mouth yields underneath mine, and her hands grab onto my shirt, I lose all sense of time. I’ve never wanted someone as badly as I do Sara, and it’s only the sound of laughter and purposefully loud voices coming down the stairs that pull us apart.

“Have fun,” I say, stepping back and walking away before the rest of them come around the corner.

I go right to my studio and let the words pour out.
