Macy. She had believed in the same beings that killed her. I had to get revenge for not only Macy, but for all the others who had suffered at the hands of these monsters.

Unfolding the note, I looked down and read the words aloud. I couldn’t wait for this all to be over with.

“For every day that you ignore our warnings, we will bring you another innocent body. Meet us in the Thorn Forest to end this war or we will continue killing humans to sustain our power. The choice is yours.”

After reading the letter, I carefully folded the warning and stuffed it inside of my pocket. I could feel my powers buzzing inside of me and I knew that no matter what happened next, I had to do whatever it took to stop the evil Supernaturals.

Chapter 24

“Absolutelynot,”Ansongrowls,as he runs to keep up with my swift pace.

Tracking across the academy grounds, I have my sights set on the Cursed Forest. The words from the note still play in my head and the images of Macy plague my memory.

“Farrah, you need to wait,” Headmaster Patricia shouts, but I don’t slow my pace. Instead, I start moving faster into a sprint. My legs burn and my chest aches, but I can’t stop until I reach my destination.

Something grabs my arm, and I am pulled back against my will. Turning, I see Anson’s wolf behind me, his paws holding onto my arm like a vice. His eyes glow red as he pants next to me.

“Not fair,” I grumble, as I struggle to get out of his hold.

Anson slowed us so the rest of our group was able to catch up to us. Looking back, I see that the detectives are still at the gate with Macy’s body. I know the Supernatural police will be here soon with the coroner to collect her body before any humans can drive by and spot the horrific scene.

Candi approaches me, and I see that Jax is now at her side. Violet, Luke, and the Headmaster reach us and everyone is glaring at me. I shouldn’t have run off, but I couldn’t help myself.

“Why are you trying to stop me?” I shout, my question directed toward everyone. “We now know that a Shadow Demon is helping to kill the humans. I’ve seen the others who are working with it. Why wait any longer?”

“You aren’t ready to fight,” Anson argues, still in his wolf form.

“The spell said midnight, you can’t do this!” Candi cries.

“It doesn’t matter anymore,” I lash out. “On my watch, I have allowed another innocent person to die. I can’t allow anyone else to hurt because of me. This ends tonight,” I declare boldly.

“We don’t even know if the potion we created is ready to be used,” Headmaster Patricia warns, but a lot of the argument in her voice is gone.

“We will just have to try. I have my gem, too, and my powers.” My voice hangs in the air as everyone watches me carefully.

“You’ve only had one training session,” Violet says, but even she doesn’t seem to argue anymore. I think everyone realizes I’m right; the time to end this devastation is now.

“I guess we'll just have to pray that I learned enough from that session to save myself,” I joke, but no one finds me funny.

A silhouette of trees against the horizon is all that remains of the day, and in that moment I feel a stifling coldness close in around me. My friends all stare at me, no one else daring to argue against my plans. With the body count growing, even they understand that ready or not, we must fight the evil that is after us. The world around us grows dark and silent, and the feeling of dread begins to fill the air.

Jax steps forward, his dark aurora hanging heavy around him. “I’m ready to go to battle. This is what we came here for – to end the evil Supernaturals and protect the academy. What do you need us to do?” he asks.

Looking around at my friends, I see that all of them are intently waiting on me to make the call. For a moment, I feel timid and insecure. How can the weight of all of this be on my shoulders? But then, I remember that it is me who holds the power that threatens the evil Supernaturals so much, that they went on a killing spree to get my attention.

“I don’t know…” I begin, my mind spinning at a hundred miles per hour. “I guess we need to gather the rest of our group. Headmaster Patricia, we need that potion that you, Leo, and the professors have been creating. I need everyone else to alert the students that we are about to fight,” I state.

Everyone around me smiles, and I can see the pride and trust gleaming from their eyes. With the night now upon us, we all branch off to get ready for the biggest fight of our lives.

As I stalk toward the forest, I ignore the fear growing in the pit of my stomach. Take a deep breath. In through the nose, out through the mouth. The air is warm, heavy with the smell of cherry blossoms and other sweet scents from the woods. My team marches behind me, ready to fight.

I cautiously step toward the Cursed Forest, watching each tree for movement. We are large in number, and we move together in silence. Anson and the other wolves are in their wolf forms, walking on all fours and their senses are heightened. Stella soars high above us in her Dragon form, ready to alert us if she sees any danger. The professors along with the Headmaster remain behind all of us, ready to use the potion, while the other Witches and Wizards have their magic sizzling and ready to use at the drop of a dime. I ignore the fear growing in the pit of my stomach and push it down into an empty space deep within myself. I can’t let terror destroy me now. Yellow eyes peer from every shadowed corner. I’ve been in these cursed woods once before and am familiar with the dangerous beings that lurk within the trees.

The detectives and Supernatural police are long gone, Macy’s body taken to be prepared for the human police to find. I was promised that they would make her death look like a drowning accident. I hope that her family can gain peace and that no others will suffer from here on out at the hands of the evil Supernaturals.

“Farrah, take it slow. We need to be cautious,” Violet warns, but I can’t seem to slow my stalking.
