Lee: When were we in trouble?

Damian: Lee, stop micromanaging. When you come back, we can sit down and discuss everything that I had to do to renovate the place. Maybe you’ll agree to restore the B&B.

Lee: Over my dead body, Damian. That’s a piece of history, leave it alone.

When I arrive at my floor, Landon’s leaning against the door of his room. My stomach becomes a big knot, and the frantic race of my heart barely allows me to hear when he asks, “Are you okay?”

The need for a kiss ceases as I wonder how he knows I’m not.

My phone vibrates again, and I decide to shove it back in my purse.

I sigh and shake my head. “As soon as I find out what Damian did with the resort, I’m going to kill him—and whoever helped him.”

“You look beautiful,” he says, cupping my face and kissing my lips. “Let’s go for dinner before you start thinking about our funerals.”

“Our?” I narrow my gaze. “Did you help him?”

“I like to think that I helpedyou, not just him. We can sit down and discuss it when we’re back home. This week is all about pleasure, no business. Get ready.” He kisses my nose and heads to his room.

ChapterFifteen

Landon

When Lee opensthe door to her room every thought in my brain goes up in flames. Heat shoots through me. I’m gripped by raw lust. Lee’s one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen. Tonight, she looks even more beautiful. She’s wearing a little black dress snugged just perfect against her feminine curves. She wears a pair of four-inch heels accentuating her incredible, long, shapely legs.

Every coherent thought flies out of my brain.

Her hazelnut, silky hair flows over her shoulders. I want to reach out and slide my hands into it. Just once, I don’t want to do the right thing when it comes to Lee. Instead of taking her on a date, I want to spend my time exploring her naked body. I can’t stop myself, I snake an arm around her waist and press her against my body. I bend down and take her mouth.

“You look great,” I say, gasping for air as I peel my lips away from hers. “Truthfully, more than great. Astonishing.”

“You don’t look so bad yourself, sir,” she says playfully. “You had those clothes hiding in your duffle bag?”

“I improvised,” I explain. “The restaurant where I found the reservation has a jacket-required dress code.” There are a few shops in the mezzanine of the hotel where I found a pair of slacks, a dress shirt, and a blazer.

“This is the second time in my life that I’ve seen you wearing something formal,” she says, covering her mouth as she tries to stifle a chuckle. “The first time was at my graduation.”

“Are you amused?”

“Just remembering that day. You looked dashing, except for your tennis shoes.”

“Hey, I tried my best,” I say looking down at my shoes.

At least I’m wearing a pair of boots today. They don’t clash like the royal blue sneakers I wore that day.

“So where are we going?” she asks as we march toward the elevators.

“The Sky Riser,” I inform her.

“The restaurant on top?” she asks with starry eyes.

Since it’s snowing hard, I requested a table in one of the hotel’s restaurants. The Sky Riser is the only one that had availability on such short notice. If given a choice though, I’d rather order room service, champagne, strawberries, and ice cream. I’d start the night by peeling off the little black dress she’s wearing. I want to know what’s under it. Some lace and silk, or just her silky skin?

Not today, Miller.

Lee’s palpable excitement stops me from spoiling the perfect date.

“What are you thinking?” She looks at me suspiciously. “I’m pretty good at reading you, but I’ve never seen that face.”
