“No. I’ll do it. You just drink.”

This was definitely not boss-employee behavior. But she wasn’t feeling well enough to protest. Steele had his thick arm around her waist, holding her against him. And she knew that if he let go, she’d probably fall to the ground.

Grady tipped the bottle of water up so she could sip at it.

“Slowly,” Grady warned. “You don’t want to throw it back up.”

She took some cautious sips, then attempted to stand, only to realize that Steele held her up in the air so her feet were dangling inches off the ground.

“I can stand now,” she said.

“No, you can’t,” Steele countered.

“Yes, I can. I won’t collapse.”

“You aren’t standing, Spitfire, because you’ve got no shoes on.”

Oh. Right.

She didn’t. Crap.

“Are you still feeling ill?” Grady asked, moving in front of them.

“No, I’m all good.”

Grady’s eyes narrowed. “Another way of saying fine. Which we weren’t going to say anymore.”

Drat. He was right.

“Should have told us you weren’t feeling well, Spitfire,” Steele scolded.

Oh no. Did they think she was actually ill? Great, they probably thought that she was giving them her germs.

“I’m not ill,” she said quickly. “It was just all the swaying and stuff.”

Grady raised his eyebrows. “You got car sick?”

“Ah, yeah. That happens sometimes. All right, a lot. But especially when I’m riding backward.”

Steele’s arm tightened around her waist, squeezing her to the point where she might throw up again.

“Um, if you don’t want me to puke again, you might want to ease up,” she said, tapping his arm.

Steele eased up. Then, to her shock, he picked her up and carried her back to the car.

But he didn’t hold her bridal style. Nope, he moved her to his side so she was sitting on his hip. Like a child.

A flush of pleasure filled her. Even though she knew she couldn’t read anything into it, she couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like if he were her Daddy Dom.

Sure, he was kind of gruff and to the point. Bossy as hell.

But if she was his, she knew that no one would ever dare harm her. Because Steele wouldn’t allow it. She gave herself a few seconds to live in her fantasyland.

But reality always found a way to intrude.

Which really, really sucked.

When Steele settled her in the car, she was in his seat.
