Will it be totally embarrassing for Nate? Probably.
But do we care? Not at all.
Tucker's job is to distract Nate all day at work until we're ready to pick them up later tonight for our adventure.
We've also already taken all of our bags of clothes and essentials. And I borrowed Nate's keys when I was there last night to finish packing a bag for him, so now we just have to wait. By six, the bus is packed and ready to go. Danny has parked it on a little dirt road outside of town. So I fire off a quick text to Tucker to let him know we're ready and waiting.
Izzy:You ready for Operation Party?
Tucker:Good God, girl, remind me that if I ever become a spy, not to come to you for code names.
Izzy:Oh, shut up! Are you done with work or not?
Tucker:Yes, I just sent Nate to double check if all the units are locked down, so fake call me soon, okay?
Less than five minutes later, I get another text.
Tucker:Now!!

I'm just locking up the last of the units. I don't know why, but Tucker made me go back and double check to make sure they were all locked, but I'm finally done. We were supposed to call it a day hours ago, but John, our boss, made us stay.
Apparently, one of the customers made some last-minute modifications they needed to be done tonight, so we've been stuck here for hours finishing up the last few things.
I've been so busy that I've barely even had time to talk to Bella about plans for tonight. Tomorrow is my 21st birthday, so even though I normally don't bother celebrating it since birthdays were never really a big event when I was growing up, Bella insisted that we do something. So later, we’re all headed to her place for a movie night and something to eat.
"Are you ready to go? The loser buys the popcorn," I say to Tucker as I get back and we gather our things. We're about to leave and walk to the parking lot when I hear Tucker's phone ring. He walks away, so I can't hear who is on the phone or what they're saying, but I can hear Tucker talking.
"Hey, John. Yeah, it's Tucker."
"What? Does it have to be now? Can't we do it tomorrow?"
"Oh, okay, but I already have plans with Nate. Can't Gabe go instead?
"Okay, we will head there straight away," Tucker responds, sounding frustrated.
"Sorry, buddy," Tucker apologizes as he comes back over to me, looking annoyed. "That was John on the phone; apparently one of the construction sites has been broken into, and he wants us to head over there right away and see if it's safe until the police arrive."
"What the fuck?! We've been running around for him all day. Can't Gabe go instead?" I snap, a little annoyed.
"No, apparently he called Gabe, but he's not answering. He needs us to go right now."
"Fine, let me just text Bella that we can't come tonight," I huff. I swear to God if I find out Gabe is at the pub, I'll be furious.
Me:Hey baby, I'm so sorry. I know we were supposed to have a movie night tonight, and I was really looking forward to it, but one of the sites has been broken into, so Tucker and I have to go and wait for the police. I've no idea how long that will take. I'll send you a message when I know more. But right now, I think we're going to have to postpone our plans.
I jump in the car, and we drive out of town to an area I don't really recognize. It must be one of the construction sites Davis and the other guys are working on. I look at my phone and am a little shocked that it's been almost twenty minutes and Bella hasn't answered.She must be pissed off at me. Either that, or she hasn't seen the message and is patiently waiting for me. I really hope she's not waiting.
We pull over on a small dirt road near one of our sites and both get out to look around and explore. We don't hear any noise, so there doesn't seem to be a party going on or anyone obviously up to mischief. Maybe it was a mistake and there were no trespassers, in which case we can head back and salvage what's left of our plans.
Tucker and I get out our flashlights and start scouting the area. We see a big bus parked with no lights on and go over to explore. But when I open the door, I hear a big, "Surprise!"and then the lights come on, and I see all my friends standing inside, waiting, and a big sign on the side that says, ‘Nate's Birthday Bash!’I drop my flashlight and almost fall over my own feet in shock.
Bella leaps into my arms. "Did we surprise you, baby?" she asks, smiling from ear to ear.
"Surprise me? You guys almost gave me a heart attack." I gasp. "What are you all doing here?"
