Page 9 of Alien From Nowhere

I toss the hair accessories and pick up the tray itself, banging it against the edge of the table. It’s solid metal, shaped like a baking tray.

Now it’s time to wait.

I pin my back against the wall that flanks the doorway. It might not swing in to provide me cover, but I’ll be quick enough that it won’t matter. I listen and wait, tensing to readiness every time I hear footfalls in the hallway outside. Finally, the footfalls seem to stop just outside the doorway. It’s my captor.

The door opens with aschiiinng!and the tall, silvery-skinned alien steps through.

“. . .Ti kori?” He’s staring at the empty bed. As soon as his head twitches to move, I give him a good wallop over the back of the head.

My translator is telling me he said “my mate” in his language. Motherfucker. He staggers but doesn’t fall, reaching for his head as he tries to turn toward me. I snatch at the holstered gun. I don’t know this model. I point it right at him as the door shuts behind us once more.

“What setting is this, hm?” I ask in mock sweetness. “Will it kill you or stun you if I feel like pulling this trigger?”

“Door, set to lock,” he shouts.

A bolt clangs into place, sealing me in here with him.

“Fuck,” I mutter. “Unlock it now, or I shoot you.”

“Are you a killer?” he asks, a smirk pulling at the corner of his lips.

I hesitate, only because he’s smiling. I don’t know whether to be angrier or more suspicious. If he’s smiling, he must have a plan to disarm me. He could overpower me if he got close enough, but I could shoot him before he took two steps.

“I guess that depends what setting you left your gun on,” I say. There’s a red light shining, but I don’t know what that means. “Areyoua killer?”

“Let’s talk about this,” he says smoothly, picking up one foot as if to step forward. “You’re pointing that stinger at the only person on this ship that wants to keep you safe—”

“Don’t move. Look, I’ve had enough of chatting with pirates, and it’s really gotten old. So I’m going to go now. If you unlock the door and confirm the settings on the gun, then I will spare your life. If you don’t, I pull the trigger and we figure it out by trial and error.”

“Quick question. In that second scenario, do you still spare my life?”

“Unlock the fucking door or I shoot you! Five, four, three—”

“Red is stun. Blue is kill,” he says, “but I’m not going to unlock the do—”

I tap the button and the light turns blue. I aim straight for the lump in his pants that must be his worthless alien cock.

“GreatKa!”He hisses as a beam of blue light hits him in the crotch. He drops like a stone.

“Interesting,” I say, walking over to watch the consciousness drain out of him as he stares up at me. “You’re a fucking liar, aren’t ya?”

“Beautiful,” he whispers, his pupils flexing larger before his eyes finally shutter.

A trickle of something close to fear runs through my chest. I’m relieved to know that the stun function of this gun penetrates clothing, but I wait for an extra beat to be sure he’s not going to jump back up. As I watch him for any hint of movement, I take in the pretty planes of his face and the flush of his cheeks. He is an attractive man, the stone-like skin creating the effect of a fallen statue. High cheekbones, full lips, black lashes . . . And that gorgeous head of hair? It splays around his head like a dark angel’s halo.

Why would such a stunning man need to steal slaves to mate with? The answer that I’ve learned during my short time in captivity is that for pirates and slavers like him, hurting others is part of the fun. And that’s why I won’t feel a lick of guilt for what I’m about to do.

CHAPTERSIX

NIKO

I wakeup in a seated position. My limbs are bound. As I try to move, I discover I’m tied tightly to my chair.

I wish I could say this was the first time I found myself in such a predicament, but I can count a few instances in which I was tied up, whether for robbery or sexual purposes.

At least I’m not naked this time.

Although . . .
