CHAPTERTEN

KAYE

I don’t haveto wonder where this man got the audacity to do a thing like dragging me onto his ship. No, I don’t have to wonder when the girth of his cock is permanently imprinted on my hand. I look down at my palm and imagine the shape of it. My organs are rearranging themselves at the mere thought of seeing it, let alone feeling it. There’s no way I’m ever letting him near me with that thing, but damn if I’m not working up a sweat just wondering how he expects to put that inside me…

It makes sense that a man with a dick like that would think he could do whatever he wants without consequence. I hate that he got the satisfaction of seeing me react to it. I hate that he saw me look at it.

It’s…big.

It’s only natural. He’s an eight-foot-tall alien, right? Of course, it would be that way.

Except itisunnatural, ungodly,unfathomable—

“Kaye,” the female warrior named Ruka greets me, cocking her head with concern. “I take it your talk with your mate didn’t go well.”

I was so dazed I didn’t notice that she’d emerged from the bridge. Ruka has a round face and broad shoulders, with her hair tied in neat black knots behind her ears.

“Can’t you please turn this ship around? We’ve only gone so far, right? Just drop me off. We can lock him in a closet and then—”

She snorts out a laugh. “That would certainly be funny, but I fear that arguing with Kalla is like arguing with a heat-seeking missile.”

“Really? Felt more like a brick wall to me,” I mutter. A brick wall with a third leg, that is.

“If we took you back, he would simply leave and go get you,” Ruka says. “I hate to say it, but he also has his reasons. If you were to agree to stay onThe Rightful Heir, that might be different, but I’m not sure he’d let you out of his sight now that you made your intentions known. He has his own ship, and he outranks all of us.”

“Reasons? Do you actually agree with him?”

“Agree is a strong word,” she says. “Like I said before, I don’t see why a dusty old colony is such a dangerous place. But by any chance… did he explain his position with the king?”

“Both of us were pretty heated,” I admit. “There wasn’t much explaining going on.”

“It’s not my place to do it for him, but Kalla has a… hm, how should I put this? He has a unique occupation that makes things more complicated.”

“He’s not a soldier? Is he a pirate? Like Niko or Captain Rossa?”

“Not quite,” she says.

Before I can ask a follow-up question, Viro emerges from the bridge and walks over to Ruka’s side. He’s the one that my mate nearly popped the eyeballs out of earlier for looking at me the wrong way. He’s a handsome Kar’Kali, with slanting, dark-lashed eyes and lush lips.

“Bit crowded on the bridge,” he says. “Had to get out of there before Kalla wrings my neck.”

“You two are supposed to be in the king’s guard… Is that right?” I demand. “And you can’t do anything about his actions?”

They exchange a glance.

“Maybe if there wasn’t an active war campaign in progress, something could be done,” Ruka says. “If the king told us to subdue Kalla, of course we would—”

“We could try,” Viro says with a grin.

“Too many plans were set into motion. We can’t jeopardize this offensive by turning around unless we’re ordered to do so. And trust me, you’d rather be here with us than have Kalla run off with you in his craft.”

My heart pounds. “Am I in danger around him?”

“No! N-no that’s not what I meant!” She squeaks quickly. “His craft is ridiculously small and there are no cooking and cleaning systems. The bed probably barely fits his gargantuan ass… It’s not comfortable for long-term travel.”

Viro gives Ruka a shove. “Way to scare her. There’s no danger at all, okay? He’s your mate. He’s only thinking of your safety and there’s no reason to fear him.”

“If you say so…”
