Hands fisted in her hair, gently pulling her head free from his body so he could look down at her. “You made the correct choice, Cordelia, but do not ever leave my side again,” he demanded.

“I won’t.”

Ezul kissed her slowly, claiming her with one sensual brush of his mouth. He teased her again and again, a gentle stroke of his tongue lapping and dipping until he was devouring her mouth, their tongues waging war on one another. Their breathing was heavy when they eventually pulled away.

“We need to get back to the ship,” Ezul told her softly. “I do not wish for us to remain here any longer than necessary. There is a small vessel waiting to see us safely back to Aragnok.”

Her heart stuttered at the mention of traveling through literal space, but she shook it off. If she could mate an alien, she could ride in a spaceship. No problem. Right?

But there was one last thing she needed to know. “Can you tell me what Runa means before we go?”

Ezul lifted her into his arms as he stood, walking effortlessly through the darkness and into her bedroom, acting like he visited her home everyday.

He sat her on the edge of the bed, disappearing into the living room only to return a moment later.

Ezul knelt at her feet, taking one of her hands in his.

“Runa, in its literal translation means ‘salvation’. Which is what you are to me. My salvation.”

“Oh, that’s actually really sweet,” Cordelia said, a fresh flood of tears streaming down her face. Ezul looked panicked, rubbing lightly at the tears with his thumbs, and she only cried harder. “It’s okay. I’m not upset. I literally cry at everything right now, but I just love you so much.” Her voice broke on a small sob.

Ezul cupped her stomach again, his large fingers splayed protectively over their child. “I love you as well, my Runa, so please, for my sake, no more tears tonight.”

Cordelia nodded, breathing deeply in an effort to get herself back under control. It was easier said than done, but as she held the hand that was laying protectively over her belly, each breath became easier until it was steady once more.

“I do have something for you,” Ezul informed her nervously once she’d calmed. “I once spoke to Delilah about Earth’s courting customs, and after your talk with me about mating on your planet, I…” Ezul turned her palm over and shoved a small object into her hand. “I was not sure where to place it, but Delilah was very adamant that I must present it to you on one knee.”

Cordelia stared down at the custom-made piece of jewelry, white, glowing fragments swirling around the dark metal that looked almost exactly like Ezul’s skin, and her heart absolutely melted.

“You made me a wedding ring?”

Ezul nodded seriously, eyes rapt with attention as he watched her place it on her ring finger. It was almost a perfect fit, and the fact she could see it prominently in the dark? Even better.

“I still prefer a bite, but Delilah told me it was much the same to humans.”

Cordelia stood from the bed, her breasts even with Ezul’s face. His eyes locked on her chest, and she could practically see his mouth water as he reached up, cupping them eagerly.

“How soon do we need to be on the ship?” she asked.

“Soon… have they grown?” Cordelia nodded and Ezul cleared his throat. “Perhaps we can spare a few more minutes before we make our way back home.”

“That is an excellent decision because Ireallywant to thank you for my gift,“ she told him happily, dragging him onto the bed with her, giggling as he fell willingly onto her.

And then they’d be going back to Aragnok.Home. Cordelia had never felt so ready.
