Evie glanced at him innocently. “I might have had some of the corsna that you’d diluted. It’s wonderful, by the way. Maybe a tad strong, but you won’t hear any complaints from me.”

“Strong?”

Cazar had altered the beverage to lessen its effects, but it sounded like he needed to continue tinkering with it until he’d reduced its intoxicating influence even more.

Alex looked around Evie, catching Cazar’s eye. “Evie calls it ‘wine crack’.”

Cazar’s brows shot up as the two women wandered ahead, hurrying toward the transport and laughing about something he couldn’t quite understand. He quickly shrugged it off when he became too preoccupied with watching the sensual sway of Evie’s hips while she walked, her ass and thighs hugged lovingly by the denim of her jeans.

It was a sight to behold, and each step held him captive, lust rearing its head as his cock stirred to life, a very normal occurrence when Evie did anything tantalizing. Like breathe, or move slightly.

Cazar was beginning to think he wouldn’t be able to go more than a few hours without making love to his mate, which didn’t bode well if he intended to return to work anytime soon.

He typically spent at least twelve hours a day in his lab, but he would need to cut that time in half so that he could spend it between his mate’s thighs at various intervals. Especially when something as simple as Evie walking was enough to tent his pants and make him regret sharing a transport home with his brother and sister-by-mating.

Perhaps Evie might enjoy going to the lab with him each day? Then he could work until he grew too ravenous to resist her. He wouldn’t even need to worry about traveling home, either, saving him time in the long-run. He could already picture lifting Evie onto the countertops, baring her body and sinking his cock into her silken cunt.

Kylok caught up to Cazar, slapping him hard on the back. Cazar grunted, saddened when Evie disappeared into the transport and out of view.

Kylok grabbed Cazar’s shoulder, stopping him from following after her. “You’ve been acting odd for days.”

Instantly, Cazar’s improving mood plummeted, the grouchiness returning. He brushed his brother’s hand away. “I can assure you, I’m fine.”

Kylok cursed under his breath, adjusting the strap of the duffel bag that was tossed over his shoulder. “There is no point pretending with me. I’ve known you all of your life, little brother.”

“That is not a fair assessment as you’ve either been away for most of it, training to become a warrior, or off fighting in wars.”

Kylok narrowed his eyes. “Semantics. And it does not matter how long we have been apart if I can still read you easily. What is wrong?”

Cazar sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Nothing is wrong.”

“Cazar,” Kylok warned.

“Nothing is wrong.” In truth, he had been wondering about the cause of his bad moods for days. But surely he was just adjusting to life without the parasite. It had been an unnatural experience, and it had affected him more than he had thought it would. It was jarring to go from one extreme to the next. From loathing the very thing that had changed his entire life, and then missing its presence.

“Then why have you been moody?” Klyok asked.

“I am notmoody.“ Cazar growled out the last word, offended by the question.

“That’s how Evie described your behavior to Alex this morning while you were busy making her breakfast.Moody.”

“Evie noticed?” Cazar swallowed thickly. Had he truly been so terrible at keeping his agitation to himself? “I thought only you had.”

Kylok sent him a condescending look. “We have all noticed, but I am the one who decided to say something.”

Cazar didn’t know how to process that information, deciding to shelve it for now and discuss it with Evie when the two of them were alone. He’d been fairly confident he’d been able to conceal the difficulties he was having, but clearly not.

“Does Evie know you’ve decided to speak with me?”

“No.” Kylok stared at Cazar, waiting for him to talk. Kylok was as stubborn as he was loyal, and Cazar knew his older brother wouldn’t let him rest until they’d spoken more in depth. He sighed in resignation.

“I believe the transition away from the parasite has been more altering to my mental state than I originally anticipated,” Cazar eventually responded.

“You believe? But you don’t know?” Kylok eyed him warily.

Cazar shook his head. “It’s only a theory, but nothing else makes sense. I told you that I am fine, and I am. I am happy, Evie and I are doing well. I have no reason to feel off.”

“And yet you do.”
