“It doesn't matter who. The situation has gone bad, and I had no idea."

"You can't blame yourself, baby. It's not your fault," Abigail reassured me.

"I have over ten missed calls from Scott. If I had answered him once..."

"What do you think he's doing?"

"He's fallen for her. Only a man who loves someone can be this desperate to get her to safety. He's being chased across the country by his own men. He could have gone peacefully with Macabre, but he chose not to. This situation has gone completely sideways."

"But he called you, which means he trusts you."

"Yeah, but what good is that doing him when I'm not answering? He must think I'm ghosting him."

She sprang up and rushed to the nightstand where her phone was charging. She had turned it off, and as soon as the screen lit up, she saw over five messages from Catalina and the same missed calls from an Unknown Caller.

Sitting down, she placed the phone on speaker. The first message was terrifying. "Abby? Abby, I need you, please answer. Call me back as soon as you get this. I need help." Catalina's shaky voice sounded petrified.

The second message wasn't any better. "Abby, I'm heading to you. Please answer." It was followed by a scream as the sound of loud popping echoed in the background.

Abigail placed a hand over her mouth and looked up at me. "Is that gunfire?"

I grabbed her phone, scrolling to the next voice message. "Where are you, Abby? I need you. I managed to escape, but they're after me. I need your help. I need Riddick's help." She sobbed on the recording, and Abigail sobbed with her.

"Oh my God. She's so scared. What do we do?"

"She's safe with Snare, but I have to find them."

"I'm coming with you," she said as she got up to get dressed, but I grabbed her by the arm, stopping her. "The hell you're not. This job's too dangerous, and if the cartel is involved, I'm not putting my pregnant wife in harm's way."

She blinked up at me, as if she was computing what I was saying, and slowly her features went from confused and worried to angry.

"I'm not some weak little girl, Riddick. That's my best friend whom you kept me away from." She slammed a finger into my chest as she took a step toward me.

"I owe her this, and you're not going to take that away from me. So, I am going with you unless you want this marriage annulled."

It was my turn to look at her blankly, and then I sighed. "We leave in five."

She hmphed as she ran to the bathroom. "That's what I thought. And God help you if you leave without me!" she shouted before slamming the bathroom door.

While I waited for her, I got dressed and made a call to Hoax. He was a wizard on the computers, and he was the only one I could think of who could help me with what I needed.

"Hey brother, I need your help.”

“If it’s about Snare, I’m on it.”

“I figured. He’s on the run but I know they’re headed this way."

"How do you know that?"

"Because Snare only trusts me.” I uttered.

“What do you need?”

“ Can you infiltrate the Vegas trafficking system?" I asked.

"Yeah, I could try.” I heard him clicking away at his keyboard. “You know I’m gonna have to report this to Jameson."

I closed my eyes. "Yeah, I know."
