“I got it.” I grab the phone with my tail and lift it up to her hand.

She snatches it from me and immediately unlocks it, scrolling through what looks to be several recent messages and emails. I can feel her pulse race against me, and I want to crush the phone in my claws.

What have you gotten yourself into, baby girl?

Rage pools in my stomach thinking that anyone, especially someone she trusted, would hurt her, and I have to grit my teeth to stop from snarling. I believe her when she says she likes what she does as a sugar baby. I’ve just also seen the worry on her face. Whatever has her so desperate for money is most certainly connected to whatever or whomever hurt her. It’s clear she needs time before she is comfortable talking about it.

She has two days.

“Everything okay?” I ask as she locks her phone and tosses it to the leather chair.

“Uh, yeah.” Her eyes dart around, landing anywhere but my face. I can feel her breathing slow down.

“When you’re here with me, you just ask for what you need, and I’ll get it for you.”

Her eyes snap back to finally focus on me, lighting up so the yellow flecks in her irises shine like gold. A sly smile pulls at one corner of her swollen lips.

“Well then, I wear a size nine, but Louboutins run small, so you’ll want to get me a nine and a half.” Her mischievous grin deepens.

“Done.”

She giggles, playfully slapping me on my chest.

Gargoyles have very few material needs in the world, and my brothers and I have had nothing but time and lucrative work in the Strange security business to build our wealth. The thought of spending a fraction of it to be the person who chases away the shadows in her eyes is enough to make my cock hard.

“Where’s all your hair stuff?” Julianna asks as I carry her to the massive Gargoyle-sized glass shower stall.

She frowns, seeming to realize something as she looks me up and down. She rubs her palm over my bald head, sliding it around one horn, then the other. She lets out a small laugh. “I guess you don’t need shampoo.”

I don’t know if she realizes how different she looks, so relaxed and content compared to the controlled way she’d entered the penthouse. She is dazzling in both forms, but there is an ease in her smile now.

“No, I don’t, but Eden insisted on stocking the cabinets for our human forms, so you should find what you need under the sink.”

Reluctantly, I put Julianna down, and it is only when she takes her hand off my horns that I realize no one has ever touched me there before. In a fight, yes, my horns are weapons and they’ve made contact with flesh and stone, but I’ve never felt the touch of soft skin caressing their tough curves. They are the hardest points on my body, made of the same stone flesh, but infinitely stronger and lacking in sensitivity, but the heat of her palm lingers on me.

“You could stay?” she murmurs, pulling out a few bottles from the cabinets and turning to face me.

There is the siren again. Her full lips glisten, and she looks up at me from under her lashes. My cock jumps.

“I can’t.” I take a step back from her to turn on the shower and gather my control.

She pouts. It’s over-the-top and purposefully comical. Her full bottom lip juts out just enough that I want to sink my fangs into her, not breaking the skin, never actually to hurt her, but I want to mark her as mine.

“Eden is going to find you after your shower. She’s going to get you whatever you need, for the party and anything else. I’ll be busy most of the day, but I’ll see you tonight.”

“Later, Daddy,” she says with a little laugh. It’s light-hearted and joking, but a possessive grip takes a hold of my chest. I can see the way her chest rises and falls a little faster when she says it. We both feel it when she calls me Daddy, because it feels right.

“Everyone’s waiting.”

Eden stops me in the hallway as I force myself quickly away from the temptation currently soaping up.

“Thank you.” I nod. “When Julianna is done in the shower, she needs new clothes for the wrap party. Whatever she wants, get it for her.”

“Got it.” Eden smiles but keeps her head down as she writes on her tablet. Her shoulders seem to vibrate with a smothered laugh.

“It seems everyone has something to say today.” I arch a heavy stone brow in Eden’s direction. She’s worked for the brotherhood for just over two years, and she’s become a friend. An intrusive, nosy, bossy friend, but a friend nonetheless.
