The dress is vivid in color, an electric blue, but otherwise simple. It has thin spaghetti straps with a draped cowl neckline and is made of a silky satin. I slip the dress on. It has a slit over the left leg that reaches just below my hip. There is no way I can wear a bra or underwear with it.

I move on to the three boxes stacked on the floor, lifting each one and placing it on the bed. My heart beats a little faster as I spot the distinct cursive of the Louboutin logo on the three matching boxes.

“Good Daddy,” I murmur with a grin.

A deep rumble of a laugh hits my back and sends shivers across my skin.

“You’re welcome.” Titan’s voice is warm and rugged. It slides over my skin, down my spine, and weakens my knees.

I turn slowly to face him. If a single phrase affects me so strongly, the sight of him might knock my feet out from under me.

I’m right to worry.

He is beautiful and brutal, all sharp points and rough surfaces. Moonlight hits the acute contours of his body with glowing silver light, highlighting the angular peaks of his muscular shoulders and chest. His claws, smooth and slick, shine with vicious purpose.

I swallow hard and remind myself of what I overheard this morning. Titan made it clear what we were. What we are doing, no matter how good it feels, is transactional. It’s the relationship I agreed to. It’s the one I’m happy with.

“Thank you.” I smooth my hand over my waist and hips. I let it linger until I see his gaze drift to the open slit. A smirk pulls at his lips. “It’s a beautiful dress. You have good taste.”

“Eden gave me a few suggestions.” Titan’s voice goes gruff as he appears to force his eyes up and off my body.

Thank you, Eden.

“You have good taste in assistants then.”

“I know. Now pick out a pair of shoes. We have somewhere to be.”

“You don’t have more important things to do?” I stiffen and arch a brow. “Not some Strange-only business to attend to?”

I hear it in my voice; I sound petulant. If Titan wants to pay me for a weekend where he never sees me, who am I to complain?

“I wouldn’t be here if there was more I could do, but tomorrow night is simple. Now, pick out a pair of shoes before your food gets cold.”

I turn back to the boxes and focus on the thousands of dollars laid out in front of me. I pull out each pair one by one. The first is the brand’s classic nude patent leather d’Orsay pumps with pointed toe. The second, a gold pair with thin straps that crisscross over the toes and wrap up to the ankle. The third, a silver pair with a single thin strap over the toes and an equally delicate ankle strap with a tiny rhinestone buckle. I love them all but know instantly I want to wear the silver. The barely-there design of the shoe mirrors the nakedness of the dress.

“Are these the ones you want to wear tonight?” Titan’s chest is against my back, and his clawed hand is cupping mine, the silver shoes dangling off my fingertips.

“Yes.” I release the shoes into his hands and turn to face him.

I don’t know what to expect, but it’s not Titan lowering himself to his knees in front of me, his horned head bowed over my feet. He says nothing and I don’t breathe as he cradles one foot in his large palm and slips the shoe on, then moves on to the other foot. He attempts to buckle the delicate ankle strap, but his claws don’t allow it. I grip the base of his horn for balance as I bend down and complete the task.

When I straighten, I can’t help myself. I stroke the solid curve of his horn, marveling the way it mirrors the look of his skin but actually feels like stone. My breath shudders as I stand. Titan rises to tower over me, the heat in his eyes burning into me.

“Where are we going?”

“One of my favorite places.”

Titan holds out a hand, and I move to give him mine. I yelp as he grabs my waist instead. He swiftly lifts me up, one arm hooking under my knees and the other circling my back, cradling me to the hot granite of his chest.

“What are you doing?” I try to keep the surprise out of my voice, try to maintain my polished composure, but fail.

“I am taking you to the roof.”

Titan carries me easily in his arms down the penthouse hallway and heads towards the sliding glass doors off the living room. His strides are double that of a tall man, and we reach the terrace with inhuman speed.

“It is just a quick flight up.”

Before I can register what is happening, the warm night air is whipping around my face and bare legs. Reality hits, and I suddenly understand just how high up the penthouse is.
