His fingers close around my left wrist as I hold on to the edge of the table. He is hot and solid, and I’m sure he can feel my pulse race in his palm.

“Hewas a smug asshole who wasted my time.” I give Titan a pointed look, and I can’t hide the smile that pulls at my lips or the small laugh that makes my shoulders jump. As I tried to charm and engage Harris, he’d made me feel silly and insignificant. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt that way. “He was just so proud to have an exclusive hookup. So proud that he got invited to some super secret unveiling party. Now he’s not the only one.”

Titan’s hand is still curled around my wrist as he rests his other one next to my hips. He laughs. The broad swath of his body looms over me, shaking with mirth and heating the air between us. When he finally looks up, his eyes lock onto mine. Now that I’m close, I can see they’re charcoal gray speckled with flecks of black and white, like marble. They shine even in the dim light.

They have to be contacts.

“You know, I thought you were flirting with me earlier.” I don’t know why I blurt it out, other than I can’t stop looking in his eyes and the only thing I can think to end it is by opening my mouth and filling the silence.

“I don’t lie,” he says cryptically as his eyes move over my mouth and breasts.

“So you said.” I arch a brow and roll my eyes, determined to not let the sudden heat coursing through me distract me from the fact that my plan for achieving long-term stability with a sugar daddy was just firmly dashed. I start to move from the table’s edge only to feel Titan’s hand holding me there. I’m sure I can break free, but I can’t seem to get myself to do it. “You also very clearly stated we aren’t friends.”

“We aren’t friends. We don’t know each other yet.”

“You said it looking at my tits.” Irritation heats my words. I wish I’d worn taller heels. I want to look down on him. “That implies something, you know.”

“It implies nothing,” he says firmly, his marble eyes unrelenting as he holds me in his gaze. “It tells you exactly what I’m thinking.”

“And what is that?” I suck in a sharp breath, struggling to keep my voice steady. I tighten my grip on the table’s edge as my heart thunders in my chest.

“I look at you because you are incredibly beautiful, Julianna.” Titan shifts towards me, and unconsciously, my knees part, letting him closer.

“I know,” I say firmly, refusing to simper to his compliment.

“Good.” A smile tugs at his lips. “I look at your breasts because I enjoy the way they look in that dress. I look at your ass because I can imagine how it would feel to spank you. And I look at your lips because from the moment I first saw you, I wanted to kiss you.”

Titan closes the inches between us. My body bends towards him, and my eyelids, so heavy, drop close. His lips, warm and soft, brush against mine. I feel his breath mix with mine, and my lips part…

What am I doing?I jerk back.

I don’t have time for a man who won’t provide for me in the long term. Titan could’ve been the answer to all my problems, but I’m nearly back to square one. I don’t have time for any of this.

I pull myself from Titan’s grip, and I shift off the table. Grabbing my bag from the table, I rush into the foyer.

“Where are you going?” Titan follows, making it in front of me with speed I don’t have time to question.

“You got what you wanted, and now I’m leaving.” I move around him towards the elevator.

“I got part of what I wanted, Julianna. But I paid for the night.”

This stops me in my tracks. My body tense, I slowly turn back to face him.

“You wanted conversation, and I delivered. I’m the one screwed,” I spit out, desperately wanting to pin all my financial desperation on him even if it’s a lie.

I’m the one unable to pay my creditors, I’m the one with the lawyer I can’t afford, and it’s my mother who won’t allow me access to my own money. Titan’s just another person I trusted too easily when I should’ve known better.

“I could’ve been out tonight with someone who was actually interested in helping me.” My eyes dart around the room as I plot the going rate of every priceless piece of art and artifact on display.

“You can leave if you want to. I won’t stop you.” He says it calmly, so calmly, it pisses me off further. “You got the amount I promised, and I got the answers I needed. But I want to help you, Julianna.”

“I have bills, Titan.” I practically bark it out. “I have immediate shit I have to take care of. There’s a lot I need to deal with and deal with now.”

“I know.” His voice is so low, and the gravel in it so soft, his words feel like a caress, something gentle and, therefore, unfamiliar against my tired skin. For a second, it makes me believe he truly understands, and I want to relax into the comfort of it.

Pride refuses to let me look away as Titan moves to stand in front of me and brushes back a stray lock of hair behind my ear. I have to crane my chin up to meet his gaze. I see heat and power behind the black and white flecks. Everything in me screams to look at the floor, to give into the softness and let my emotions go. The control I desperately cling to floats farther and farther out of reach, until only my fingertips brush along the edges of it.

“You need a Daddy, Julianna.” Titan runs the back of his fingers down the side of my cheek and brushes his thumb over my bottom lip, his emerald ring glinting out of the corner of my eye. “Just for tonight, let me be that for you.”
