“Julianna wouldn’t want this. She never asked for this.”

Richard is making a wet gurgling noise as blood spills from his lips. His eyes are open and his body twitches as he tries to take advantage of the lull in my aggression by dragging himself away from me.

“We got what Jules wanted.” Stiel places a solid hand on my back, slowing my breathing. “You can stop now, Titan. She would want you to stop.”

Julianna didn’t even want me to be here.

I release Richard from underneath me. I don’t know if he’ll live or die, and I don’t care. I don’t look at him again.

As Stiel and I launch ourselves into the night sky, I turn to him.

“She can never know.”

He nods.

ChapterFourteen

TITAN

Iwant to see Julianna.

I want my little thief.

With my blood pumping and my heart racing, my flight home is a reckless one. I speed and dip low, anything to burn off the violent energy I didn’t get to fully release. If Stiel wasn’t there, if he hadn’t said the exact right thing, hername, I’d still be pummeling Richard now.

Eden is there to greet me when I walk in from the balcony at the penthouse. Her green eyes widen when she sees me, and she shuffles backwards.

“He… y… y, boss.”

“Where is she?” I demand. I radiate unspent adrenaline, and I plan to take it out on Julianna.

If I’m fucking her senseless, she can’t ask me about tonight, and I can forget about everything I did.

“Uh… Jules is taking a bath.”

I grunt my response and stalk down the hallway, turning into my bedroom. Moving across the room to the open doorway of the bathroom, I stop suddenly at the sight of her.

Julianna is tiny inside the massive bathtub built to fit a monster. She faces away from me, her hair pulled up on top of her head in a messy bun, exposing the long, delicate curve of her neck. She moves around the water, sweeping the bubbles to cover her breasts. Her head drops back to the stone ledge of the tub. Her eyes closed, she exhales.

I exhale with her.

My shoulders drop and my wings relax. My tail, which I hadn’t realized I’d held rigid on the flight back, coils at my feet.

Her head bobs along to music, tiny earbuds, which I assumed were purchased tonight with my card, in her ears. I like seeing her like this, at ease and happy, in my bathroom, in my bathtub, with earbuds, specialty soaps, and shampoos I paid for. I like that I provided this moment for her. At least a part of the reason she is blissfully playing with bubbles as she hums along to some modern tune is due to me.

After the burst of adrenaline dies down, a sudden rush of emptiness fills me, and I need to feel her skin under my palms. I don’t want her to see me yet. Gods know what I look like, and I don’t want to scare her.

If she didn’t turn around when I entered the room, I trust the music is loud enough she won’t hear me as I move up behind her. I kneel at her back and breathe in the fresh scent on her hair. She lazily runs a pink loofah over her arms and legs.

I slide my hands over her shoulders, allowing my claws to graze her skin. She jumps, letting out a sharp yelp.

“What the hell!” She flails in the water, splashing out a good amount and coating my chest in it.

I wrap both hands around the back of her head, cupping her jaw from the behind and steadying her gaze forward. I can hear the music in her ears, something rhythmic and pulsing. She can’t hear me. Her breath is fast, her breasts rising and falling out of the water. I feel the fear making her pulse race, and then it slows as I release my hands from her jaw and let them rest on her shoulders.

“Titan,” she murmurs, but she doesn’t turn around to double check. She keeps her gaze forward and her earbuds in just like I want.

“Good girl.”
