“A present?”

Mephistopheles arched an eyebrow at Legion. “Little?”

Asmodeus chuckled and slipped his hands into his pockets as he leaned against the mirror wall. “Now, now, Mephistopheles. He wasn’t talking about your dick.”

The elevator dinged, and the doors glided open. Legion pushed me forward while keeping his arm around my shoulder as we walked out. The basement was barely finished with walls but not furnished. Mephistopheles led us to the left, through a few hallways, and into a room.

My gaze landed on the man who sat on a chair with a black bag over his head. His hands were tied behind him, and his ankles were bound to the legs of the chair.

“Who is that?” I asked nervously.

Even though the rooms weren’t finished, this one had tools lying around and an assortment of ropes, hammers, and anything else I could find in a hardware store on the walls and tables.

My stomach knotted, and my mouth suddenly dried. This didn’t look good.

Asmodeus and Legion stayed by my side as we stopped walking while Mephistopheles strode ahead and circled behind the tied-up man. The giant viking demon planted his hands on the man’s shoulders and stared right into my eyes.

“We’re righting many wrongs that were done to you and others who were victims to pieces of shit like him.” Mephistopheles’s eyes dropped to the man’s head as he said,“him.”

“Is that—” I started but was interrupted.

“Yes,” Mephistopheles purred. He yanked the black cloth off the man’s head, showing me his mouth duct taped shut to prevent him from making a sound. He had thinning white hair, wrinkles, and liver spots on his aging face. “Donald Connell, mayor of Cadillac, Michigan. He’s one of the many humans that made a deal with Aamon for power. Don’t worry, little one, I tookverygood care of Aamon for what he did. That broke the magick bargain he had with the humans.”

My stomach churned, and my heart sped up.

I never would’ve thought I would see Mayor Connell again. He was a sick old man who preyed on little children. I was one of them, but I had gotten away before it worsened.

Hewas one of the reasons why there was the downfall?

Mephistopheles must’ve seen the question on my face because he moved around Donald and stalked toward me. His eyes hardened with anger, not at me, butforme. He stopped in front of me and cupped my cheeks. His warm palms made my skin tingle and goosebumps rise on my arms.

He leaned down until we were at eye level and murmured, “He was among the many. But I want you to watch his end.”

I drew my eyebrows together and shook my head. No, I couldn’t watch someone get killed.

Mephistopheles’s eyebrows bunched, and his face fell before he gathered himself and blanked his features, preventing me from seeing any of his emotions.

Asmodeus rested his hand on my lower back and brushed his mouth against my ear. “It is an honor to a demon for his mate to watch him kill the ones who harmed them. If you don’t wish to watch, we won’t make you, but the man still dies.”

Legion leaned down to whisper into my other ear, “It is an honor to not only watch us kill him but to mate with us on his dead body. You’re ours, and our bond will grow stronger when you’re avenged.”

I swallowed hard and stared into Mephistopheles’s eyes. He kept his face blank and dropped his hands from my cheeks.

“Wait,” I gasped and grabbed his face between my hands.

Mephistopheles paused and leaned back in but didn’t touch me. I nervously wet my lips. His eyes dropped to my mouth, and he watched the movement before returning his gaze to mine.

I swallowed hard and nodded. “Yes. I’ll do it. I’ll . . . I’ll watch.”

Mephistopheles’s eyes darkened, and his nostrils flared. Asmodeus and Legion groaned into my ears, their hands trailed over me. I fully expected them to tackle me down and fuck me, but they didn’t.

Mephistopheles drew away and took two steps back while he kept his gaze on me. He jerked his head to the side, and Legion disappeared, only to return with a chair.

“Take a seat, kitten,” Legion murmured.

I dragged my bottom lip between my teeth and nervously nibbled on the skin as I sat on the chair and crossed my legs at the ankles beneath the chair. Asmodeus and Legion gave me one last longing look before they followed Mephistopheles to Mayor Connell, who watched us with wide, frightened eyes.

Mephistopheles went behind the mayor’s chair and planted his hands on his shoulders.
