He smirked. “I promise.”

I gathered all my courage to finally ask this question. “What does it mean for me to be your mate?”

Asmodeus pulled away from me and smirked. “Been waiting for you to ask us this question, little human.” At my impatient look, he chuckled, leaned against the counter opposite me, and crossed his arms over his chest. “Contrary to the popular belief of humans, demons have mates. It’s always been among our kind, and there’s sometimes an angel or five. But you’re the first human to be mated to a demon in centuries. Let alonethreedemons. We knew you were ours the night you called upon us.

“When you didn’t die in the middle of our savage mating, we knew something was different about you. All three of us felt it while we fucked you. A spark in you started a blazing fire in all three of us. After we dropped you off in your new home, that’s when we felt the fire die until it was nothing but embers. Only mates can do this. It’s painful, and we’re left bereft without our mate. You’re the one who holds us in the palm of your hand and can make us do whatever you wish.

“Pieces of our souls tied that night. Mephistopheles had uttered words of the Bonding to you. He even took your soul.”

“You’re ours.”The memory of Mephistopheles’s voice crept into the back of my mind.

My eyes widened, and my mouth parted.

“So this whole time . . . ?”

Asmodeus smirked and nodded. “We hold your soul.”

“Can I . . . Can I see?”

He dropped his hands and brought one in front of his chest. His fingers uncurled from his fist, and a black flame sparked in the middle of his palm. Blue flames mingled in the black ones. I leaned in closer and gasped when I saw a tiny version of me in a black dress, eyes closed with dark makeup, and my top lip painted black with a matte lipstick. A little smile lifted the corners of my lips as if my soul was happy to be in my mate’s hands.

I raised my eyes to his Asmodeus’s and drew my eyebrows together. “How am I still alive if I don’t have a soul?” How did any of that work? I thought you had to have a soul in order to live.

He scoffed and closed his hand, the flame disappearing with it. “You can live without a soul. Haven’t you heard the saying ‘selling your soul to the devil?’”

I nodded, eating up every word he said.

“You can live without your soul, but there is a price. Since you are bonded to Mephistopheles, Legion, and me, you will live forever without any repercussions. We’ll always take care of you and love you.” Asmodeus closed the small space and wrapped his arms around me. Slowly, he leaned down until our lips were nearly touching. “You’ll never go back to that world. You’ll never suffer, never go hungry and wonder if today is the day you die. You now have three demon mates who will burn the world for you. We are dangerous creatures, little one. Anyone who takes our mate is a dead man walking.”

I closed my eyes and breathed a sigh of relief for what felt like ages. For years, I’d been tense and living on the edge, wondering what was next. Now I had three wonderful men in my life who had done so much in just a few days.

My chest ached and felt tight with emotion.

I nibbled on the skin on my bottom lip and sighed. I curled my fingers into his shoulders and tightened my hold to gather more courage.

“I love you,” I whispered.

He sharply inhaled, his hands tightening on my waist before he loosened them, not wanting to hurt me.

“Ava,” he murmured, closing the small space between our lips for a passionate kiss. Our tongues tangled together, and he plunged further into my mouth. I groaned and stepped closer to him, my breasts brushing against his chest.

Asmodeus walked me backward until my bottom pressed against the island table. He grabbed my hips, lifted me, and sat me on the table. I spread my legs to allow him between them as we kissed.

Asmodeus ended the kiss, licked his bottom lip, and gazed at me with darkened eyes.

“I love you too,” he finally said.

I smiled.

I spent the morning cooking with Asmodeus and sneaking kisses.

Who knew demons could be so lovable and sweet? I didn’t understand how these supernatural beings could be more level headed and loving than the men from my world.

Mephistopheles and Legion walked into the kitchen around eight with sleep still in their eyes. By then, Asmodeus had finished cooking breakfast. It was a big meal of pancakes with fresh fruits, biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, and homemade bread with chocolate swirled in it.

The guys sat at the table, and I brought Mephistopheles and Legion plates of food. I sat them down in front of them and squeaked when Legion tugged me onto his lap. I laughed while he peppered kisses over my face before he caught my lips with his.
