“Hey, Shadow,” I purr with a smile, taking her in with my gaze. A throat clears, then I hear a huff and Brantley grins as Shadow frowns. “You okay, Lux? Have you got a cough or something?” I ask, not taking my eyes off the beauty in front of me.

“Is he going to the party tonight?” Sam asks as she pulls out of Brant’s grip and turns her back to me. I lean forward, the scent of coconut and vanilla filling my nose, and I inhale deeply, stepping closer until I’m flush to her back.

“Oh no, baby, they don’t let delinquents like me in there,” I purr, moving her hair off her shoulder. The tips of my fingers brush against her neck and I feel her shudder. The softness of her skin has my dick jumping again.

“Well, then it sounds like my kind of party,” she says with a chuckle.

“Ouch, Shadow, you wound me,” I whine, stepping back in mock hurt. Lux starts laughing, and Shadow spins to face me, her eyes glaring at her friend.

“I really like him, Sam,” she says looking me up and down, chewing her bottom lip. Seeing her do that with a look of lust as she checks me out has my dick jumping back into my insides. He shriveled up real quick.

“So, you showing at the party tonight?” Brantley asks Shadow, and she grunts something, her eyes still on her friend.

“I’ll be there now tha I know the delinquent won’t be,” she says with a death-glare at me. I blow her a kiss as she drags Lux off in the opposite direction. Brantley and I watch them go, and once they’ve disappeared around the corner, I bark out a laugh, my eyes connecting with my friend who is trying his best not to join me.

Itug at the weird mask on my face, it’s making my skin itch. I’ve been dying to go to one of these parties, but it’s invite-only. I’ve heard it’s the party of the year, but nothing else. Nobody talks about what goes on at these parties, and the weird thing is, you're not allowed to remove your mask at all. Lux got her invite as well, so I’m standing outside the house waiting for her, since she had to leave just after we got ready to go and help her mom with something that couldn’t wait. The black backless dress I’m wearing hugs me in all the right places, with a huge split on my right leg. I bitched and moaned at Lux when she pulled it out of my wardrobe. I don’t like this sort of stuffy get up, but as she said,“We’ve got an invite to the party of the year, you’re not going in jeans and a hoodie!”

The security guard keeps eyeing me up, he tries to have a friendly smile on his face, but the dude is huge and kind of terrifying. The breeze is chilly tonight, I shiver as it brushes against my skin, where the fuck is she? I grow impatient, pulling my phone out of my clutch to send Lux a message asking where she is, and her reply is instant, telling me I should go in as she’s stuck in traffic. The thought of going in there alone has me wanting to break out in hives, but I know she’ll be able to find me since she knows what I’m wearing. I reply with a thumbs up and put my phone back in my bag. With a deep breath, I head to the front door.

“Well, hello there,” the guy on the door purrs. “Have you got your invite?” I lift my right arm, showing him the gold band on my wrist. He smiles, lifting his hand with a scanner in it. My brows jump to my hairline when the machine beeps. The band reminds of what you would get at a concert, but it bleeped?

“There’s a barcode on the top of it, so we know who you are,” he says with a smile.

“But how do you know who is who, with the masks?” I ask, my interest piqued.

“I’m sorry, Ma’am, I can’t let you know the secrets of the party,” he whispers, a mocking smirk tipping the edges of his lips.

“If you say so. I still don’t get how you know who is who, but you can keep your secrets,” I say with a glower, he chuckles and opens the front door for me.

The hallway before me is dark, but the unexpected thing is, there are red lights on the roof leading the way.Well, here goes nothing,I psych myself up, my veins buzzing with excitement. I take a deep breath and step up into the hallway, my eyes follow the red strips that lead deeper into the house. I only make it two steps when I hear the door starting to close.

“Enjoy your night, Miss Whitlock,” the guy says.

I whip around so fast, I almost fall because of the heels I’m wearing, then I’m plunged into darkness with the red lights, my only light. Now the outside world is blocked off to me, my unease starts to build. The overheads are giving me serious serial-killer vibes.

Buck up!I say to myself, you’ve wanted to come to one of these for ages and now you’re here, don’t be a chicken shit.I stride down the corridor with determined strides, making sure to stay in the center in case I end up breaking something. I’m surprised my steps are solid considering the size of the damn heels Lux put me in. Seriously, how the hell could she forget how uncoordinated I am? Honestly, I could fall over my own feet in flats. I make it to the end of the corridor, where red strip lights surround a door with a hatch in it.Knock hereis painted on the door in red paint. Yeah, this really isn’t comforting me at all. I knock and wait, my anxiety spiking the longer I’m standing here.

After what feels like a lifetime, the hatch opens and a masked face stares at me, the sound of a lock being clicked can be heard as the door opens. The person beckons me forward and I step through, low music can be heard and my body itches to move to the sensual beat. People are sitting around tables with glowing center pieces, and there’s a bar on the right side of the wall.

“Miss? I need your phone.” the masked person says, I whip around to face him. I know he’s a he because his voice was distinctively male.

“Why?” I ask, holding my clutch a little tighter.

“It’s to protect everyone here, ma’am. This is a night of no names, and anything is possible,” he says. I chew on my bottom lip, not sure if I’m willing to give it up or not. “If you want, you are more than welcome to leave, but this is the rule of the house.” Indecision is high as I look at his outstretched, gloved hand.

“You know, you’re not really helping me wanting to hand my phone over,” I say, taking a step back.

“Why’s that?” he chuckles.

“Gloved hands, masked face. Dude, you're giving me murderous vibes right now,” I say, taking another step back.

“Don’t worry, Sam, you’ll be fine,” he chuckles.

“Brantley, you asshole,” I snap, getting up in his face. The shit laughs harder as I growl, “You scared the shit out of me.”
