I scrub my fingers into my scalp, massaging it as I wash the remaining suds out of my hair. Grabbing the conditioner, I squeezing a massive dollop into my hand, sniggering to myself as the bottle makes that weird noise it does. The scent of coconut swirls around the air and I breathe in deep, the smell making me imagine I’m on a beach somewhere with a coconut in hand instead of this hell hole.

“What ya doing?”

I spin around with a scream, eyes wide as a shadow fills the tiles surrounding me. My feet slip and I desperately try to grab onto the shower curtain to halt my momentum, screaming louder as I continue to fall. Bright red eyes widen in horror as I hit the base of the shower cubicle, my body screaming protests. Then everything goes black.

CHAPTERSIX

Iwince as the darkness begins to pull back, leaving me to feel like I’ve got an ensemble of drums pounding a beat in my head. I prize my lids open, and the light cutting through the small gap has me closing them again tightly.

“P?”

My heart stops as the voice rattles around in my head. How hard did I hit it?

“Pop!”

There it is again, did the impact knock the rest of my screws loose or something because there is no way that I could be hearing his voice so clearly?

The sound of it lulls me towards the oblivion once again, but it also opens up the fissure in my heart that I’ve tried to keep patched up with plasters. God, I miss him so much, this place would be a little easier if he was here.

“Oi, dipshit,” his voice growls again. “Open your damn eyes!”

I do as I’m told, my eyes peeling open to reveal a bright white light illuminating the bathroom. All my senses switch back on at once, I can hear the shower and feel the water beating against my skin, goosebumps rising as my teeth chatter together with the biting cold. My eyes lift up to the ceiling and my heart thumps harder. The silhouette comes into focus with bright red eyes narrowed on me, and I try to scramble to my feet. But the wet shower tray has me falling to my knees more than once.

“Whoa there, you idiot,” he says. “Will you chill out? I don’t want you comatose yourself again.”

“What the fuck?!” I screech as I manage to get my footing, wrapping the shower curtain around me at the same time. If I wasn’t so shocked and pissed at this moment, I’d be impressed with how I managed to do that. “What the fuck, Kevin?!”

“You miss me?” he chuckles with a wide toothy grin.

My mouth opens and closes like a fish out of water as I stare, dumfounded, the words I’m dying to say on the tip of my tongue but I can’t get my vocal cords to cooperate. I openly stare, which makes his smile widen.

“Are you going to say something?” he asks with a chuckle.

“I thought you were dead!” I screech as I grab the closest bottle to me and launch it at him, he tries to avoid it but his massive size hinders him in his retreat and it smacks against his forehead.

“What the fuck, you psycho?”

“Psycho? Are you for real right about now?” I hiss as I step out of the shower and try to step over one of his coils. “I thought you were dead,” I say again, choking up. “I cried for you.”

“That was touching,” he says with a laugh, “I was planning on coming clean sooner but I was having too much fun.”

I stop in my tracks, my feet planted on either side of his smallest coil where the tip of his tail is. “What do you mean, you were having too much fun?”

I pull my left leg back over, turn around, and sit on his coil with a raised eyebrow, smirking a little as his top half wiggles uncomfortably and he looks everywhere in the bathroom but at me.

“What do you mean, Kevin?”

“Well. I…” He rustles restlessly as I fold my arms across my chest and narrow my eyes on him, it didn’t take long for my mind to conjure up the reason but I just want him to admit it. “I’ve been here the whole time.”

“You’re Casper?” I ask, anger beginning to consume me faster than a tsunami. He nods in reply and I jump to my feet, the hurt hitting me in the chest like a dagger to my heart.

I turn my back on him and step over his tail, rushing into the bedroom. I avoid the full-length mirror on the wardrobe so I don’t have to look at him. I do notice that he’s made himself more of a reasonable size than he was in the bathroom.

“Pop?” His words are remorseful, and that only adds fuel to the vortex within.

A pounding begins in my ears, and my throat’s dry as my breaths become heavier. My vision tunnels to a point, thunder cracking through the sky as my body shakes violently. “I’ve been in hell since I’ve been here!”

“I—”
