Murder isn’t my specialty. I’ve only pulled the trigger once, at the end of my gap year, to finish my training with the brotherhood. It was nothing more than a formality, a rite of passage. I didn’t feel any particular way about it. They picked a drug dealer who used to beat his wife and kids, the scum of the earth, and I knew the world would be better without him in it. It didn’t feel good to be the one ending it. It didn’t feel bad either. I didn’t lose any sleep over it.

Killing Brandon Clark will feel good.

As it’s not my specialty, I make the inevitable call, although it adds another favor—which brings the total count to three. Three too many to owe someone like my brother, but here we are. He’ll know how to handle it, and what to do with the body afterwards. It’s not his first rodeo.

Markus and I spent our gap year together. We’re used to it. We were born a few months apart, so we’ve been in the same grade most of our lives. Until now. He stuck around the brotherhood for a second year, so he’s a sophomore while I’m a junior.

Unlike me, Markuslikedhis first kill. And his second, and his third, as well as everyone after that. Hence why he stuck around for a little longer, serving as one of our cousin’s enforcers. If Dimitri hadn’t sent him to college, I think he would have been happy to fully immerse himself in the brotherhood forever. But that path is closed to him now he’s found Dez. Or they’ll both join the bratva. Who knows.

I popped by the Shark House to get changed, and pick up a larger suitcase to bring back with me later. In dark, nondescript clothing, I pull up in front of the Wyvern House. I don’t have to wait at all: both doors of the back open. Markus and Dez slide onto the leather seat, in similar clothes. I crook an eyebrow at my brother in the rearview mirror. I didn’t realize he was making today a date night.

He catches my look. “Dez loves playing with abusive dicks.”

She grins. “Sometimes I keep them as souvenir.”

There are days I think she’s worse than him. She didn’t used to be. The first time I saw her, she seemed sweet, and prim and proper—even more so than Sarah. I would never have imagined her transformation.

I don’t think she changed for him as such. If anything, he freed her. This seems to be her true nature.

“Seat belts,” I remind them, driving off toward the useless little town one last time.

Just because we’re on our way to commit a murder doesn’t mean we should disregard road safety laws.

Marius puts his on, but Dez hops onto his lap, and they start sucking each other’s face. I roll my eyes, deciding not to say anything. What’s the point? If anyone pulls me over, a few bills will exchange hands and we’ll be on our way, like the dozens of times it’s happened before, for whatever reason. There isn’t much a thousand bucks can’t fix in this world.

“You know how to get there without GPS?” my brother checks with me.

I nod.

“Good. Don’t use it.”

By the time we’ve left town, she’s riding his cock while he sucks on her tits. They’re always like this, but I wonder if the task ahead of us is increasing their libido.

To my knowledge, they’ve killed together at least three times. And I know they’re not done with their list yet.

“We’ll be there in ten,” I warn when we’re close to our destination.

They’re done fucking, but she’s still cocooned against him, while they whisper whatever psychopaths say to each other.

After one last lingering kiss, Dez returns to her seat.

I tense as we approach the now-familiar road. It’s not as late as the last time I came around these parts, barely nine thirty, so most of the houses are lit up.

“Anyone home?” Markus asks me.

“Someone, for sure. The lights are on. Should we wait till later?” I ask dubiously.

I truly am no expert in murders.

“Yeah, sure. We absolutely should skulk around in the dark in a brand-new car no one in town has ever seen.” Markus chuckles, leaning in to pat my shoulder.

I’m used to that degree of contempt from my other brother, usually.

“Whatever, psycho. What’s the plan?”

“Dinner,” Dez announces, grinning.

They’re far too comfortable, but that’s exactly why I called Markus. I can’t fuck this up. But I also can’t allow the man who fucked over Sarah to keep breathing.
