“You’ll go through the initiation?” I check.

“Yes.”

“And you’ll marry me.” This, I don’t ask. I tell her.

It’s the best way to cut the discussion short. I don’t have the time to torture it out of her.

Her big eyes lift and rest on me. “I don’t get it, Marius. You’re…we—I mean, you just faked it to annoy my stalker. We’re not…”

She’s blushing like a schoolgirl. It would be cute if it wasn’tinfuriating.

“Sweetness, did it ever feel like I was faking anything?” I ask gently.

She bites down on her lower lip.

“A public relationship was necessary to try to get your stalker to move—and it worked. We certainly didn’t plan on them trying to dump a bunch of revenge porn on you, but we wanted them to act rashly. They did. We’re closer than ever, thanks to that. We know they were in Thorn Falls yesterday. We know they went to LA next. We have answers we didn’t have yesterday.Butwhatwould be the point of my actually doing anything with you behind closed doors? The only reason I’m fucking you is because I want to. I want you. And you want me right back, though you’re too much of a fucking brat to admit it.”

She grabs the closest pillow, and chucks it at my head. It lacks any heat, and is so badly aimed it barely even touches my shoulder before bouncing back on the bed.

“Domestic violence, so early in the relationship?” I shake my head. “That’s promising.”

“You’re one to talk, Mr. Cane!”

That’s a good nickname. Maybe I’ll have her call me that next time I’m drilling her.

I toss the pillow back at her. “Come on, Sarah. Don’t make me wrench it out of you. You’re going to get fucked enough times today.”

“Today?” she squeals, horrified. “I…I have class!”

“Oh, should we, I don’t know, wait for your stalker to get around Morgan’s security to do something about it?” I roll my eyes. “You’re fucking my Pa in three hours. Now, tell me what I want to hear, or you’ll be very sore and covered in cum when I deliver you to him.”

“Fine! I’ll marry you,” she snaps.

I grin. “Was that so hard?”

She sighs, crossing her arms over her chest. “It was, actually.”

I’m not surprised. She hates voicing her choices. If something isn’t her choice, it’s not her fault.

Considering how she’s been blackmailed over touching herself, something that had been her own choice, I get it. I’ll have to break her of the habit, though.

“Now, go on. Tell mewhyyou’ll marry me.”

I grin as I push her, knowing, one thousand percent, that I won’t getthatanswer from her today.

I know she loves me. She loved Specter before we ever met—and she grew to love me, too. But those words, I’ll have to earn.

I doubt she’ll give them to me before I make her fuck my father.

“I don’t know. Why did you ask?” she counters.

I don’t miss a beat. “Because you’re mine, and I want the rest of the world to know it at first glance—so you need to wear my ring.”

“Whatever, Marius.”

“Andbecause I love you, and I know you won’t feel safe in this relationship until you know I’ve committed to you.”

I don’t think I’ve ever seen those beautiful eyes widen so much, so I’ve either shocked the hell out of her or I’m that good at appearing indifferent. I’m guessing it’s mostly the second. To be fair, I tend to be casual, easygoing, not overly serious, so she might have mistaken that as a lack of true interest.
