"What thehell, Marius!"

“Funny.” He chuckles dryly. “I was about to ask you that very same question, Sarah.”

What? That makes no sense. Rather than question him, I focus on the more pressing concern.

“You drugged me,” I state accusingly.

“It was only a little ketamine,” he says, arms crossing over his massive chest. His T-shirt does nothing to conceal the way his arms flex, his bulging muscles on display. “You weren’t out for long.”

Most women would look at that display of lean muscles and drool. I know only too well how that much strength can be used against me. It’s terrifying. I should be trembling, or pissing myself by now. I would if it were Brandon in front of me, and Brandon isn’t even that colossal.

“Oh, then, if it’s only a littlesuper addictive date rape drug, then it’s all fine!” I half scream.

As my anger rises, I realize I’m not panicking as I ought. How sad is it that I’ve survived worse?

I seem to think I can reason with the guy who literally drugged me.I must be demented.

“I’m not raping you, your highness.” He draws back, standing to his full height, his cool eyes set on me. “Or dating you, for that matter. I need answers, and we’ll be here for however long it takes for me to get them.”

I blink.

“Answers?”

I’m positively confused.Does he think I have the answers to the next math test or whatever? It’s laughable. We’re not even in the same grade.

Rather than replying to my very reasonable question, he’s shoving his phone inches away from my face, the screen facing me.

Before I can say a word, a video starts. At first, it just seems like badly filmed amateur porn. I’m about to ask what’s going on again, but then I recognize the scene. I wasn’t about to forget about it in a few days. That’s Sunday, in the grove.

I frown, and my eyes switch between the device and the man holding it.

“I didn’t film that,” I tell him.

“Never said you did. Funny you immediately assumed I would,” he says, a cold smile stretching his lips.“It’s as though it’s a logical conclusion.”

Lofty jerk.

“Oh, your highness, I want to believe you, truly. The thing is, you were the only outsider. The perspective matches where you were standing. And you were rather adamant about not signing that NDA, weren’t you?”

Fuck.

When he says it like that, I wouldn’t believe me either, and I know for a fact I didn’t fucking film them. But the facts all point to me. Which is bewildering. To frame me like that, someone would have had to know that I was coming.Ididn’t even know I’d be there.

“Look, I didn’t film that. You can check my phone,” I offer.

He tilts his head. “Which means I won’t find anything on it. People have been known to have more than one phone, when it suits their purpose.”

I don’t know what to say that’ll convince him. He went so far as to drug me and bring me wherever we are, and tie me down.

I tug the restraints, testing their limits. They weren't tight enough to hurt me while I was immobile, but now they dig into my skin.

“Don’t hurt yourself,” Marius admonishes.

“Hurt my—” He’sunbelievable. “I suppose that’s your prerogative?”

In the silence, his footsteps are deafening thuds against the wooden floor; I don’t only hear them, I feel them, each one making my insides quake, until he’s standing right in front of me.

He leans in. “I suppose it is.”
