He snorts. “Don’t insult me.”

Damn. The man’s seriously ripped.

“He’s always been muscular, but it’s getting ridiculous,” Violet says, openly staring.

Not that I blame her, especially knowing a little more about her relationship. She can stare—and touch—whomever she pleases.

“I don’t know about you, but I’m positively parched after that!” she announces, leading the way to the kitchen.

I bet.

Ipet-sit Blue on Friday, as I promised Roman—not a hardship. I’m squatting in one of their fancy, empty rooms, so it feels like staying home. I try to refuse Rom’s money, but he insists.

“You’re staying in as a favor. It’s only right. It’s Friday night, you could have gone out if it wasn’t for me.”

“I wouldn’t have gone anywhere,” I insist, because it’s the truth.

He rolls his eyes and leaves the cash on the table anyway. With a sigh, I pocket it. It’s a warm evening, so Blue and I play in the garden. I can’t deny that moving here has done wonders for my nerves. I don’t panic at night anymore—even if I still had a small attack at school.

At eleven, I climb into bed, and my stomach knots shortly after, when my door slides open slowly. But before my heart can start racing in fear, a long, familiar shadow saunters inside.

I have the privilege of a visit from Louis, Rhys’s regal cat—no doubt because there’s no one else in the house. He jumps up to my bed with his eerie grace, and rolls up behind my knees.

“Hello, you.”

The only response I get is a low grumble that I interpret asshut up, human. I’m here to sleep.

I crash in record time, into a deep slumber. For the first time in I don’t know how long, I don’t wake until morning.

The cat is long gone by the time my alarm rings, but he’s worked his magic. The Egyptians were onto something: cats definitely have superpowers when it comes to fighting our demons.

Given the fact that I had the dick of a quasi-stranger in my mouth mere days ago, I called to get an appointment at the local hospital to get tested at the first opportunity.

I had to change my shift at Fur ’n Co. I was supposed to work first thing in the morning, but the earliest appointment Thorn Falls General could give me clashed with it, and I would have had to wait weeks otherwise. Telling Larry, my supervisor, was an ordeal, but thankfully, the owner was around, so he couldn’t say much, other than grumble about “kids these days” not taking work seriously.

My hospital visit is overdue in any case. I’ve not had a high number of sexual partners, but all of them are various degrees of dubious.I considered the cost before calling the hospital, but decided my health took priority in this instance; Marius obviously doesn’t care where he shoves his cock. I need to be careful. Besides, how much could a simple health test cost?

I ask as soon as I get to the elegant reception area of the off-white floor.

“Let me look,” the charming receptionist says, deftly fingers flying over her keyboards.

She tilts her head. “Miss Andrews, correct?”

“Yes.”

“Your insurance covers today’s appointment.”

I blink. “I’m not insured. It could be the wrong Andrews.”

A little frown mars her forehead. “Sarah Ann Andrews, born 17th of May?”

“Yes,” I say, confused.

Her smile widens. “It seems like your insurance is part of a scholarship? To Rothford University, covered by the Raventhorn Society.”
