“Stay,” he demands, pointing at the ground beside his door. His voice makes my body shiver. And I don’t seem to be the only one shocked by his demand because his passenger’s head swivels from me to the big guy driving so fast that I think it might roll off.

But I only look at him for a fraction of a second because the growly driver has my whole focus. At this moment, he’s my world, but my body has locked in panic, and I’m as still as a statue. The need to obey is so strong my mind goes blank.

When I don’t move, he snaps his fingers and points at the ground again.

This time, my feet move of their own accord, and I obey him without thought. The back of his hand brushes my stomach after his raised brow tells me to shuffle forward a little more.

A firm nod tells me I am where he wants before he slowly drives past the pumps and parks.

As soon as his harsh gaze is out of sight, my body quickly reminds me why I was in a rush.

A pain shoots through my bladder.

Crap.

My brain kicks in and tells me I can’t just stand here in the middle of a gas station parking lot because some super-handsome, flannel-wearing mountain man orders me to.

Wiggling, I shift, turning my body toward the bathroom. My foot lifts off the ground just as his truck door slams closed.

My head snaps toward him, and my pulse races again when he quickly approaches. The sound of his boots hitting the asphalt pulses through me. The look on his face forces my bottom lip between my teeth, but the act does nothing to hide my quivering chin. For the second time within a few minutes, I’m questioning what the hell I’m doing.

Feet glued to the ground, I’m rooted in place as he storms toward me. My body is caught between arousal and fear.

A pounding pulse settles between my legs and my body has decided.

It takes everything in me to swallow the whimper that rises when his strong fingers steady my chin. His skin burns as hot as his gaze. His eyes roam over the front of my body like a caress of his hands until they lock on my chest, where my beaded nipples have hardened with arousal.

He doesn’t say a word as our gaze meets. His green eyes hold me captive, and I simply stand there as he crowds even closer.

The feel of his boot kicking my foot back a step to where it had been startles me, causing me to jerk back. He is quick to steady me. His hands span my waist, his fingers touching the middle of my back.

I have never felt so tiny and safe yet scared. Every fiber of my being screams he’s dangerous, but those same parts of me want him.

My senses are as confused as my body—like something bad will happen, but I’ll enjoy every minute of it.

My whole body is alight. Energy hums under my skin where he touches me, and my skin tingles where his thumbs brush back and forth just below my breasts.

“Hey! Get the fuck away from my girl.”

Dale’s voice startles us both.

The big guy blinks down at me and shakes his head like he’s trying to clear it, telling me I’m not the only one pulled into their own world.

The hands on my waist tighten enough to make me gasp.

I can hear Dale rushing toward us, but as I try to twist and look behind me, the mountain of a man in front of me takes a giant step to the right, spinning us in place to put himself firmly between Dale and me.

His hands remain where they are. They’re no longer teasing but now feel as harsh as his gaze looks. “I said stay,” he reaffirms, staring me down.

“Hey! I told you to get away from her.”

Still hidden behind a mound of muscle, I can only hear Dale. I don’t realize how close he is until the sound of flesh hitting something hard reaches my ears.

It takes a second for my brain to register that the sound and the slight movement in the mystery man’s shoulder are not separate events.

Dale hit him!

In the back!Coward.
