“Fuck, she’s about to come, man. I hope you’re almost done because as soon as she does, I’m going off, too.” I growled out my warning before kissing her deeply, swallowing her cry of pleasure.

Ethan didn’t answer, he just began to pound me like a man possessed. Every movement added additional pressure on Casey’s rotating hips. When she froze, holding her breath for a long second, I knew that she was going to explode all over me. When she let loose, I was done. I lifted my chin toward the ceiling and shouted out my own release, letting jet after jet of hot cum shoot off inside her, until it began to slide out from between us.

Just a few more punishing strokes were all it took for Ethan to off-load inside me. He pulled out slowly, then collapsed in a panting heap next to me while Casey just lay sprawled on top of me with little aftershocks running through her body.

Pure. Heaven.

Twenty-Five

ETHAN

We spentthe entire weekend getting to know each other better. We didn’t spend our entire days in bed, but it was close. Brent only left to run to the pharmacy for a morning-after pill and the largest box of condoms the store had. With most of the town knowing us, I was sure he’d had plenty of questioning looks, but he gave about as many fucks as I did. Let the entire town speculate on what we were up to. They could all eat a bag of dicks. What we did in the privacy of our own home was no one’s business but ours.

I knew we were facing the first hiccup in paradise when I just asked about the scar on her back. I had a feeling it had something to do with her time in captivity, but her immediate reaction confirmed it. She jumped back from me as if I had zapped her with a cattle prod instead of just running my fingers over her wet, soapy back.

I wrapped my arms around her and just held her still, letting the steady fall of the water in the shower soothe her. As I felt the speed of her heart gradually decrease, I grew increasingly angry. Not at her, never at her. No, I was enraged at the person that tried to destroy her body and soul. All I had was the story I had found on the internet. I knew she wouldn’t want to talk about it, but I also knew that it would help her if she told us what happened.

I turned her around by the shoulders and lifted her chin with a finger. “Sugar, I need to know.”

She took in a deep breath and let it out slowly. Her eyes changed from sadness to determination as I watched. At that moment, I was so proud of her.

“I thought it would be okay.” She shook her head at the memory. “It was stupid. They had warned the whole town about it. Especially young women. It was all over the news. You couldn’t turn on a radio or a tv without hearing about the Castle Killer.” She looked up at me, gauging my reaction. I just nodded without reacting, encouraging her to continue.

“So I stupidly walked home from work, the same as I did every night. I was only a couple of blocks from my apartment when a hand reached out from between two buildings and yanked me into the darkness. I didn’t have time to scream or put up a fight.” She raised her hand to her neck, and I held back a cringe. “I’m pretty sure he injected me with something because the next thing I knew, I woke up naked inside a large dog cage. You know, those ones that people keep in their homes?” I nodded to let her know I understood. All the while, my insides twisted.

“It was so cold. I remember laying there shivering so hard my muscles ached. I lost track of time. Eventually, I didn’t feel the shakes so much anymore. That was nothing compared to when he showed up.” She swallowed hard, and tears started brimming in her eyes. “There was another girl with me. Her name was Megan. Instead of being in a cage like me, she was chained to a metal table in the middle of the room. When he came, he would—” Her tears finally broke free, and she threw her arms around me as she started sobbing.

“The things he did to her! It was awful. I couldn’t watch.” She pulled back to look up at me. “I was a coward. I couldn’t watch.” She shook her head emphatically. “I couldn’t watch.”

I brushed the tears away. Wanting to hush her, to calm her down, but she continued as if she needed to tell the story. I had the feeling she hadn’t really talked about it, not completely.

“After the last time, when her cries stopped. When he—when he killed her, before he left, he opened my cage door. He left me a bottle of water.” She shook her head again. “At first, I didn’t notice. But you know how those cages have latches on both the top and the bottom?” I nodded because she seemed to want me to understand. “He didn’t fully latch the bottom one and left the lock off. I don’t know. Maybe he thought I was too weak to get out, or he didn’t think there was any way for me to fit through.” This time when she met my eyes, hers were full of pride.

“But I did. It took me a while. I had to bend the bottom of the door open, and there was hardly any room to maneuver, but I was finally able to squeeze through.” She reached behind her, touching that long pink scar. “It’s kind of hazy. I remember pulling myself to my feet and not being able to stand very well. There was so much blood. I know I had to break the handle off the door. I think I was just acting on instinct. The next thing I knew, I was walking through a perfectly normal looking house and out onto the street.”

After she stopped talking, I cupped her face and placed a soft kiss on her lips. “I’m so proud of you, Casey. That was very brave of you. It took a lot of courage to escape, even though you were so afraid.”

She nodded, though her eyes said she didn’t feel very brave. She let out another heavy sigh. “I moved back in with my parents. But after several weeks of the police being unable to catch him, my parents begged me to leave.”

My body grew tight. They kicked her out? What the actual fuck? It was her turn to calm me. She rubbed her hands down the stiff muscles in my arms.

“No, it wasn’t like that, I promise. They gave me some money and told me it would be safer if I went on the road and traveled far away. I got on a bus and paid for my tickets with cash using a fake ID that my dad got me somewhere. I don’t know where. I didn’t ask. No phone, no ID, no trail. He couldn’t track me.”

I didn’t like it, but it made sense. It was all they could do for their little girl. “The FBI couldn’t put you in WITSEC?”

She shook her head. “They said they didn’t have space and that I didn’t qualify.” Her shrug was helpless. “But it brought me here. To you and Brent,” she whispered.

I brought my forehead down to hers and breathed her in. “Oh, sugar. I hate that you went through any of that, but I am so glad that you ended up here.”

We stood like that for another few minutes until the water began to run cold. I helped her out of the shower, handing her a towel and using a second one to dry her hair. Once we were done toweling off, she smiled at me hesitantly. “Thank you for listening to me.”

“Of course, sugar. Anytime you want to talk about it, we are here for you. Both of us.”

She nodded, then gestured toward the door. “I’m just going to go get dressed in my room. I’ll be out in a few minutes.”

I watched her walk through the door and smile up at Brent, who I knew had been standing at the door since the beginning. She reached up and brushed her hand over his chest as if she were trying to soothe him the same way she had done with me. He pressed a hard kiss to her lips and then to her forehead without saying a word. Then, he, too, watched her walk away.

He gave me a hard look, and before I could say anything, he turned to stalk out of the room. Likely heading back to the kitchen to finish whatever needed to be done for our dinner. I quickly threw on a pair of sweats and rushed after him, hoping I could stop him before he did anything we would all regret.
