Page 45 of His Fatal Love

But I’m starting to figure Julian out. I think once he smashes a few PacSynners, he’ll be crazy hot for me again.

I pull into the docks and park a way out from the Bernardi checkpoints. They’ll be watched by PacSyn, and I’m not keen on the Bernardi boys seeing Julian working with me, either. Not yet. I don’t want word getting back to Don Castellani that his brother’s turned.

The thought actually makes me cold all over, and once I kick the stand down and Julian pulls off the helmet, I grab his thigh to keep him there on the bike.

“What?” he asks.

“You being careful with that brother of yours?”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, you’re not letting him know what company you keep—are you?”

“Don’t worry, Leo,” he says, pulling away from me as he jumps off the bike. “I’m not fucking my brother. And even if I were, he’s not the kind to get jealous over the likes of me.”

I make a face. “That’s not what I—“

“Do you think I’m stupid?” he asks coldly. “Of course I haven’t talked to Sandro about you, or your father, or any of you gutter trash Bernardis. I’m embarrassed enough as it is; I don’t need him cutting pieces off of me for it.”

And just when I’d been feeling all worried about him.

“Fine,” I snap. “You take care of your shit, and I’ll take care of mine. For tonight, though, my shitisyour shit. Word came through that PacSyn’ll raid tonight. Not like you assholes the other night; nowhere near. But I want it shut down fast. We can’t afford more fuck-ups getting ships in and out.”

Julian scoffs. “Did you know, Leo, that the Port of Los Angeles is one of the least efficient in theworld?Maybe letting another organization take over would actually benefit the Bernardis, if you can’t cope.”

We’ve been walking toward the docks, but I grab his arm and stop him. “Do you have to be such aconsistentasshole?”

“Of course not. It’s a conscious choice.”

He’s fucking unbearable. If it weren’t for my father’s orders, I’d…well, probably still want to be balls-deep in him as badly as I do right now. Julian fucking Castellani is irritating, arrogant, infuriating—but he also makes me laugh despite myself.

I’m grinning right now. “Maybe save it for PacSyn,” I tell him softly. “And this time, do what I tell you, okay?”

He grins back, and there’s a spark of something in his eyes before he nods. “You got it, boss.” But then he jerks away and scans the area.

“What?”

He says nothing for a moment, and then, “I feel like someone’s watching me.”

“Then let’s get going,” I say, pulling him along. “Get lost in the shadows. If someone’s watching us, it’s probably PacSyn.”

“Mm. I’d really rather not be seen by anyone,” Julian sighs. “Certainly not in present company.” I grit my teeth hard to ignore that as Julian pulls on his balaclava.

We’re down on the docks now, watching the ships, the workers loading crates onto them, and the armed guards patrolling them. I explain the layout—or start to, anyway, but he already knows the docks well.

I get a text from the new Capo AJ pushed for, Tony Olivieri, telling me his sentries have spotted PacSyn on the move.

“Twelve men,” I tell Julian.

“We’ll be out of here in twenty minutes. Hope you booked a nice restaurant.” He smiles at my questioning face. “Dinner,” he says. “You said you’d buy me dinner.”

“Or let you suck my dick.”

“Either-or,” he says breezily. “Let’s get moving. I’m hungry.”

We decide to split up—I’ll keep the front line busy while Julian sneaks up behind and picks them off one by one.

“You ready?”
