Once the car was parked, she let me take off the blindfold. We were at the Beach Break Café. “Um, ok?” I chuckled. “We got all fancy to come to the café? And it looks closed.”

We were the only car in the lot, and it was dark inside the cafe. Genesis reached into the back seat and plopped a garment bag on my lap.

“Get dressed,” she commanded with a big smile as she pulled out another garment bag from the back seat.

“Where?” I looked around.

“Do you see anyone else around?” She hopped out and started getting undressed.

“Gen!”

“Stop being such a prude,” she teased. She unzipped the garment bag and pulled out her prom dress.

“Gen, what are you doing?” My best friend was crazy, but this was certifiable.

“Don’t make me get fancy by myself,” she chided.

“Fine.” I hopped out and quickly got undressed and put on my prom dress. We looked like two runaway prom girls.

“Ready?” Her eyes were gleaming with mischief.

“I’m not sure I could honestly answer that since I have no idea what I’m agreeing to.”

She ran around the front of the car, grabbed my hand, and dragged me to the front door of the café as I was hopping on one foot still trying to slip on my shoes.

Whispering, I asked, “What are we doing? I’m not going to break into the café. Beverly would kill us.” We had been coming to the café almost every weekend since I started dating Bridger sophomore year. Beverly adored us, but I didn’t think she would be okay with us breaking in to her place of business.

She laughed as she pushed open the door. As soon as she did, the lights turned on and eighties music filled the café. Quickly scanning the room, I noted hundreds of balloons covering the floor, streamers hung from every corner, and circulating colored lights bounced off the ceiling and walls. There was even a photo area set up.

“Genesis, what did you do?” I was excited and shocked all at once. Before she could answer, Bridger and Jayden stepped out of the shadows dressed in their tuxedos. Bridger donned a baby blue tux, starch-white shirt, and ice-silver bowtie to complement my baby blue tulle dress with silver bodice. I clasped my hands over my mouth, and happy tears rose to the surface as Bridger approached me.

“May I have this dance?” He extended his hand in offering all the while keeping his eyes locked on mine.

He looked stunning. His green eyes gleamed under the lights with his long, dark hair that always fell over his eyes, and his neck tattoos stood out sharply against the white shirt, making me want to devour him right here and now. I had always thought Bridger was sexy, but this was a whole other level of hot. My heart skipped and my body heated.

I placed my hand in his, and he pulled me close to him, wrapping his other arm around my waist, sending chills all over my body. Our eyes remained locked.

“Did you do all this?” I smiled.

“I can’t take all the credit. It was Gen’s idea.”

We both peered over to where Gen and Jayden were already making out as they danced. We shared a laugh, and then my stomach tickled with butterflies. Bridger and I hadn’t slept together yet, but we had always hinted about it on prom night.

Tonight was unofficially prom night, and once that sank in, I became slightly panicked. I loved Bridger, and I knew I was ready, but I was still a ball of nerves.

As if he was reading my mind, which he seemed to do more often than not, he whispered in my ear, “It doesn’t have to be tonight, if you aren’t ready. I’m not going anywhere,” he assured me.

I kissed him softly and rested my head on his chest as we danced to slow music into the early morning until we were exhausted. As we headed out of the café, I pulled Genesis aside.

“You’re an amazing friend, Genesis Walker. I hope you know that.”

She tilted her head to the sky, brushing her hands under her chin dramatically and flashing her eyes bashfully. “I know.”

She grabbed my hands and spun us widely.

Genesis always knew how to turn dust into sparkles.
