“I do. You’re my blood.”

“That doesn’t give you the right to spill that blood.”

I see Lorenzo coming out of the corner of my eye and try to change directions so my father doesn’t see him but it doesn’t work and he spots the chauffeur.

“What are you doing with Miss McCallum?” He says and then my father shoots him. No warning. Just like a wild dog in the streets.

I scream and yank at my arm, attempting to run to Lorenzo but my father keeps dragging me away until he gets to his car. He slams the butt of his gun into my head when I cling to the door trying to keep from being pushed inside.

I groan and reach a hand up to my head, wincing when I see the blood on my fingers. That gives my father enough time to push me inside and slam and lock the door. He comes around and backs out, spewing gravel everywhere.

I lean my head back and nausea tugs at my belly until I bend over and heave up my breakfast on the seat.

“Dammit! What the hell are you doing, Bonnie?”

But I can’t do anything to stop it. My head is wracked with the worst pain of my life and my belly is clenching wildly, violently. I bend over, writhing as the pain washes over me in waves of agony. My belly is on fire, my gut twisted, aching.

“I need to go to the hospital. I don’t feel good.”

“Are you kidding me right now? I’m not taking you to a hospital. You’ll be fine. Just take a couple of deep breaths.”

I close my eyes and sink into the swimming depths of my head, feeling the nausea taking hold again. I can’t stop it and I’m bent over, throwing up again when my father slams the car over to the curb and growls, “Get out!”

I stumble out of the car and fall to my knees, my eyes streaming with tears, the pain in my belly tearing at me like fire-tipped blades.

The car backs away and he pulls out, clods of dirt hitting my prone body.

I need Victor.

But I dropped my phone in the store and I don’t have any other way to call him.

I sink to the ground and lie there weakly, my belly twisted in knots, my eyes closed tight against the pain in my head.

I think this is where I die and Victor will never know what happened to me. He’ll think I left him, ran away, and he’ll curse my name.

Tears fall down my cheeks and I curl into a ball, my hand pressed to my belly as another wave of pain pulls me into blackness.

CHAPTER10

Victor

Something is wrong. I can feel it. She should be home by now and she’s not. I haven’t heard anything from her or Lorenzo and there’s no way he wouldn’t have let me know if they were going to be late. There’s something wrong.

I pick up my phone. “Jeremy. Remember when I asked you to put trackers in all of Bonnie’s shoes. Did you do it?”

“Yes, sir.”

“Good. Is there an app or something that I can use to track her?”

“I put it on your phone, sir.”

I pull up the app and sigh in relief when I see the dot on the screen. “Call a car for me. And see if you can find her car. Lorenzo hasn’t checked in for hours.”

“Yes, sir.”

In less time than it takes my car to get to me, he’s calling me. “Sir. Lorenzo has been shot.”

“Is he alright?”
