I finish up the last bit of homework I have before taking a shower and grabbing a bite to eat. Once Landon gets home, we start pre-gaming with shots of tequila. I limit myself to two for now, as I know there’ll be more later. I’m not about to drive tomorrow with a crappy hangover.

But I am ready to have some fun. And I know just who I want it to be with.

Chapter6

Lennox

“Doyou mind if I take the front seat, Maia? I don’t know if I can handle the back.” My stomach turns, and I breathe slowly, hoping this wave of nausea will pass.

Whose idea was it to do all those tequila shots again?

I groan, every step toward the car making my head ache more.

“Fine by me. I’ll stretch out and catch a snooze,” Maia says as we stop at the trunk of the SUV Everleigh’s dad let us borrow for the trip and wait for our friend to catch up.

Everleigh trails slowly behind us, a large pair of sunglasses on her face and a baseball cap pulled low over her eyes. She drags her suitcase behind her and mutters some crap about never drinking again. I can’t help but chuckle to myself. The good girl is more hungover than the party girl. Funny how the tables have turned.

I wrap an arm around her shoulders. “Ah, my little student. Look how far you’ve come. Soon these bad hangovers will be a thing of the past.”

All I get is a grunt in response as she hits a button on the key fob in her hand and the trunk pops open. She immediately sits in the trunk instead of putting her bags in. “I don’t know if I can drive without puking. I feel like death.”

“Do you want me to drive?” I ask her.

“Would you really?”

“Sure. My dad owns an SUV, and I learned how to drive with it.”

Everleigh lets out a huge sigh of relief. “Len, you’re seriously the best. This has to be our little secret, though,” she says as she points at Maia and me. “My dad will kill me if he ever finds out.”

“Got it,” I say, and Maia nods in agreement. The three of us pinky swear, and Everleigh hands me the keys.

“If it wasn’t for the amount of snow in the forecast, I doubt he would have even agreed,” Everleigh says. “Better than having to rescue us, though, right?”

“Yeah, the snow in Lake Tahoe is crazy,” Maia agrees.

After loading our bags, we settle into the SUV, and I familiarize myself with the dash and various features. The heated seats are an awesome touch. It’s nice we don’t have to squish into Everleigh’s small car or mine. I barely use my car here on campus since we pretty much walk everywhere, but it’s still nice to have around.

The ride to the ski lodge was uneventful, both of my friends snoozed and I followed the GPS and jammed out to music. When we arrive, I see Holden’s truck in the lot, so I park next to him. Snow falls lightly from the sky, and the lodge and mountains in the background make for a picturesque scene.

A little swarm of butterflies takes hold of my stomach, which only annoys me. I see him at the lab all the time, so what’s the big deal?

“Ev! Mi! Wake up! We’re here!”

Both of them perk up, but not by much, the sleepy look on their face and wild hair tell a different story.

“Damn, already?” Maia says as she stretches and yawns.

Everleigh moans. “Ugh, I feel worse.”

“The sleeping didn’t help?” I ask as I cut the engine.

“I think I need food. And another hot shower.”

“Alright, let’s get inside and see what’s up.”

After checking in, we find our room and our friends. The room I’m sharing with Everleigh and Maia is connected to the room Holden, Rhett, and Landon are staying in. Then across the hall Madison and Chloe share a room that’s connected to Tyler and Asher’s room. I’m happy Madison and Asher decided to come after all. The only one missing is Remi.

“He’s coming tonight. He had an exam this morning he couldn’t miss,” Rhett informs us after Maia asks where he is.
