I’m horny as hell.

That is a dead end that I don’t want to go down, however. I do my best to keep any of the continued conversation around sexual anything from our lexicon, and I need to reign it in now.

Down girl.

“Yeah… I need to practice,” I say casually, already undressing him with my eyes.

We walk to a flat area with no trees or bushes immediately in the way, Bobble Cat circling the area. The tiny colorful mushroom appears less frequently here, as the weather has turned a little warmer.

Sunder lifts his shirt over his head, exposing his toned torso with black lettering crawling across his arms and shoulders. His abs are defined and smooth except for the small trail of dark hair that disappears into his waistband. I stop myself from letting out a slight moan as I leer at him. Instead, I give him a knowing look and teasingly say, “You’re not trying to mate with me again, are you?”

He gives me a wicked grin. “Not yet.”

The answer thrills me. I literally get chills, and my core clenches as I envision what we could do.

Stop. Mira. Just stop.

After removing my shirt, I walk around him and run my hands along his arms and chest before settling in front of him, leaning against the hard wall of his torso. He wraps his arms around me in a gentle embrace. It feels so different this time. Before, it was always rough and utilitarian, a little pushy even. Now it’s intentionally tender. It feels careful.

Loving, even.

I close my eyes and mind to distractions, holding my hands in front of me. I easily form the ball of light, shaping the energy in front of me. It’s stronger than before. The power flows more easily. I form a small thread in one palm, and it slowly wraps around my right wrist.

Sunder exclaims, “You’re doing it!”

I smile proudly as the rope continues to climb my forearm, weaving itself to form a beautifully intricate pattern. I thrust my arm forward, shooting a bright red orb into a tree trunk. Things feel natural, like it’s finally clicking.

“That’s amazing! You’ve gotten so strong!”

“Maybe it’s because I’m not repulsed by your touch anymore,” I snip back, but I’m smiling at him.

Sunder laughs and gives me a quick squeeze around the waist, “Ha! You were never repulsed by my touch, brat.”

He quickly gives my neck a light nibble, and I feel my stomach flip. I can’t help but moan softly. He’s being playful and teasing me, testing to see if I’m willing to push boundaries.

I am.

I elbow him in the stomach softly. “Come now…”

Sunder growls low in my ear with animalistic desire, squeezing me tighter. He bites into my shoulder and whispers, “Maybe later.”

I shudder at his breath, moving across my neck and back.

He pulls back a bit and sighs as he says, “We need to get going. We’re losing daylight.”

Bobble watches from a short distance away. After we break the connection and my Chroma fades, I pick him up, scratching behind his ears and under his chin. I kiss the fur on his head.

We spent two more days trudging through the Litwood. The landscape gradually gives way to wider fields and plains. The trees are smaller here and the air less dank. As we walk, I hold his hand so I can practice conjuring.

“I can’t believe how naturally it comes to you,” Sunder tells me as I create a glowing crimson image of Bobble in my hands.

“It’s not all natural. I’ve been practicing,” I respond indignantly. I command the figure of Bobble to swish his tail before letting it turn to a blazing fire just above my palm. Yesterday I learned to will the heat of the flame away from my skin, and I haven’t stopped playing with it since.

“Yes, but most people take years to gain the control and delicate touch you show in some of these manifestations. Centuries even. You’re special, Mira. Accept it.”

I just shrug, biting my lip, but inside I feel gleeful. I fall into a magical world, find my soulmates, and now I’m pretty good at magic… This can’t be real life. My old worry about the coma dream flares, but I shake my head.

This is real.
