Cobra let himself inside. “Did you sleep at all? You look like shit.”

I put on my uniform and my armor, ignoring what he said.

Cobra glanced at the empty bed before he looked at me again. “She’ll come around—”

“How many?”

“Twelve,” he said. “They must have come to investigate.”

“Good. That gives us time for Viper to arrive.”

Cobra continued to watch me. “So, what did she say?”

“She’s pissed off at me,” I snapped. “What do you think she said?”

“But it’s not over…right?”

I secured my sword to my hip and grabbed the dagger that I’d left on the nightstand. “No.”

He breathed a sigh of relief. “Just sex her up real good, and she’ll forget the whole thing—”

“Does it look like she’s sleeping with me?”

Now Cobra dropped the topic. “Let’s go…”

Fang circled my shoulders, and then we walked out, taking the long hallway toward the front of the castle. We descended the staircase then made it outside, where the ramparts were positioned around the castle. The place was so disheveled and depressing that I wasn’t sure what we were fighting for at this point.

We approached the wall, and I spotted Larisa standing next to Elias, her back to me as she looked ahead.

Just seeing them standing next to each other, even if there were several feet in between them, pissed me the fuck off.

She felt my rage because she turned to look at me as if she knew exactly where I was. She locked eyes on me.

I locked eyes on her.

My anger was replaced by a desperate longing. I could try to suppress my emotions around her, but I’d rather she understood just how much I loved her to speed up her forgiveness.

We walked up to her, and it was strange to approach her without sliding my hand into her hair and kissing her. I just had to stand there, look at her like she was a fucking stranger.

Cobra glanced back and forth between us. “How close are they?”

Larisa pulled her gaze off mine and looked at my brother. “Should arrive any moment. Cobra, let me introduce you to King Elias, King of Raventower.”

King Elias shook my brother’s hand.

I would never touch that fucker.

Larisa looked at me again, as if she felt that sudden burst of rage.

I changed the subject before I said something I shouldn’t. “What’s the plan?”

“Threats,” Larisa said. “What do you know about the werewolves?”

“Not much,” I said. “They’ve always kept to themselves, which is appreciated. They’ve never participated in political matters of the world. I suspect the sickness has changed all that. At their core, they’re human, so this is an excellent time to strive for power.”

“How many of them are there?” King Elias asked.

“I just said I didn’t know much about them,” I snapped.
