“What?” I asked. “What do they mean I abducted Sera?”

Shiloh blew out a breath. “I’m not sure what to make of it. I’ve heard the rumors, but no one is saying anything solid. Just that you were together when she went missing and they think you had something to do with it.”

I snorted a laugh. “That’s ridiculous. I love Sera. She accompanied me and the guys on a job, of sorts. We were all sent home two days ago, but she’s gone missing. What else can I tell you?”

Clicked her tongue. I knew that sound well from our academy days, and it never boded well for me.

“You didn’t answer my question about whether you were responsible for Sera going missing?” Shiloh asked, her tone flat and even. She was hunting for answers and would dig until she got them out of me.

I sighed and scrubbed my hand through my hair, tugging at the roots in frustration as I debated my answer. The last thing I wanted to do was get Shiloh involved in this mess, but time was of the essence.

I took another moment to debate my answer before answering Shiloh honestly. “No, I didn’t abduct Sera or cause her any harm. If anything, someone else took us both against our will.”

“Someone who?” she pressed.

I didn’t want to target Taneisha, not because I was protecting her, but because I worried what might happen to Sera if the fae still had her.

“I’m not comfortable sharing who took us.”

Again, an uncomfortable silence hung in the air on the line between us. “Hmm. But you’re back and Sera is still missing? What do you think the Lowe’s will think about that?”

I had an idea, and it placed me right in the Lowes’ crosshairs. “I swear I didn’t hurt Sera, Shiloh.”

“You want my advice, Em?”

“Sure?” I replied, hearing the question in my voice.

“Turn yourself in to the Lowes and tell them everything you know. That, or leave town, but I bet they already know you’re back, and not from me.”

Shiloh’s words shook me to the bone. “Thanks, Shiloh.”

“Don’t mention it. Like, literally.”

The line went dead as I shot to my feet. Marcos and Liam were chatting as I ran up to them.

“Goldenbriar won’t give out information over the phone, we’ll have to go down there in person,” Liam explained.

“We need to go. Now,” I said, blowing past them on the way out the door.

Marcos and Liam ran after me, easily keeping pace with my mad dash towards the front door of the club.

“What’d you find out?” Marcos asked me.

“The Lowes have declared me public enemy number one. They think I’m responsible for Sera going missing,” I explained.

“It’s sort of true,” Marcos replied.

“Shit, man. So where are we going?” Liam asked me.

I ran through the doors, skidding to stop as my eyes adjusted to the brightness of daylight. “Anywhere but here, I need time to think.” I lifted my arm to block out the sun, or at least I tried to lift my arm, but my body fought me. Panic raced through my veins.

Shiloh’s warning had come too late.

“What do we have here? Emrys Tedros in the flesh. I have someone who’s overdue for an audience with you.”

The speaker, who I didn’t recognize, stepped into my field of view. The man had short, white hair that was slicked back from his forehead, giving him a severe and menacing appearance. His features were sharp and angular, with a thin nose and cruel lips. His eyes were cold and calculating, and they seemed to pierce right through me.

There were two others with him, but I couldn’t quite focus on them. I tried to respond, but I couldn’t move my lips to answer. Neither Liam nor Marcos replied, so I assumed they’d been frozen as well.
