“I just said I would give you a floor plan. There is no need for you to skulk about the place…” her voice petered out as he turned and fixed a cold stare on the woman.

“I’m not sure what you’re used to, but you need to check yourself.” He walked right up to her, stopping just shy of her personal space. “What I do or where I do it is not your business. You will provide me with what I need because as long as I’m here, I’m in charge. If you have an issue with that, take it up with Archer Gray.”

Her eyes widened. Fear lurked in their depths.Good.He wasn’t big on leading by fear but nor was he going to be treated like he was less than. She needed to adapt her thinking and he was pretty sure he’d made the right impression to make that happen.

She trailed him at a respectful distance through the bar room into a kitchen with a little sitting room off of it. It would be bright and cheery on sunny days. It had sofas and tables and lots of plants. The kitchen was commercial grade.

He faced her and said, “Please send me the floor plan and a copy of the blueprints if you have them.”

He walked past her and headed back to the foyer. He went around to the back of the staircase and found another set going down. The security room would be down here somewhere. He passed a billiard room on his right. Beyond that were doors that appeared to lead outside.

The first door on the left was the spa entrance. He knew from his site research that this place, unlike many of the larger locations, had no hospital. The spa was just that, a day spa, albeit a very nice one.

He walked by the spa without stopping. There were a few more doors. A wine and cigar room, a weight room, and a small library. But the last door in the corner had to be the one he was seeking. He tried the knob and pushed the door open only to come face to face with someone in a devil mask.

“Ahn!” the devil yelled and waved his arms.

Flynn’s first instinct was to flatten the guy but instead he just gave the devil a cold stare.

“Oh shit,” the devil said ripping off his mask to reveal a young, freckled face. “I’m sorry. I thought you were…someone else.”

“Obviously.” Flynn continued to stare.

The kid’s face flushed. “Er, sorry.” He blinked and had a hard time meeting Flynn’s gaze.

Flynn sighed. “You gotta name?”

The young face flushed brighter red. “Um, yeah, I mean yes, sir. It’s Donovan, sir. Donavan Wright. I work security here. That is, I am learning how to work security here. My father is the head of security.” He glanced around and then stepped out of the way so Flynn could enter. It was a waiting room of sorts. The place where any guest could come to launch a complaint or look for a lost item or conduct any interaction with security.

Flynn spoke over his shoulder. “Is your father around?”

“He’s down that way.” The kid gestured to a hallway that ran off the back of the room.

“I’ll find him, thanks.” Flynn started to walk away.

“Er, sorry again,” Donovan said.

Flynn turned. “How would you like to make it up to me?” He held out his SUV key. “Can you move my BMW around back? I left it parked in the front.”

Donovan’s eyes got big. “Ms. Carruthers won’t like that.” He took the key fob. “Happy to move it for you.” He smiled and then hurried away. Flynn proceeded down the hallway in search of the head of security.

Ravi Shah was sitting at his desk in his office which was the last room on the right. He stood when Flynn knocked on his door.

“Mr. O’Connor, nice to meet you.”

People knowing who he was without him introducing himself still freaked him out a bit. But he’d admit the automatic respect never got old. That was probably why Mrs. Carruthers bothered him so much.

Flynn walked in. “Mr. Shah.” They shook and Flynn sat down in the visitor’s seat across the desk from Shah.

“Sorry for the crap weather,” Shah said.

Flynn shrugged. “Not unusual for this time of year, or so I’m told. Not a great night to throw a party, however.”

Shah’s lips curled into a sneer. “Yes.”

“Not your idea, I take it.” Flynn was glad to see that he and Shah were on the same wavelength when it came to the party.

“I think it’s a horrible idea. Having non-members in here is a huge mistake.”
