Gina pressed her lips together and shook her head.

Harper pressed on. “Is it Fisher? Or Davis? Are you afraid they’ll kill you because you fucked up with Astrid and Calli?”

She snorted. “Fisher and Davis like me. They need me. I’m good at what I do. I know how to wrangle the girls. I’m not worried about them.”

“Who are you worried about then?”

Gina just glared at her.

Harper decided to try a different tact. “What happened to Calli? I get the feeling that wasn’t planned.”

“Stupid, stupid girl thought she could blackmail me.”

Blackmail? “What did she have on you?”

Gina clamped her mouth shut.

“But you didn’t kill her.”

“All she had to do was tell us where the pictures were, that was it, but she refused. Stupid girl.”

“Someone killed her. Before she went down the stairs. The autopsy is in. She was dead when you threw her body over the railing. You even screamed to make it seem real but the medical examiner said she died by a broken neck not caused by the fall.”

“He got frustrated. Lost his temper.” She rubbed her temple.

“Headache?”

Gina frowned. “Men just suck. If he’d just kept his temper in check then we wouldn’t be in this mess. He got mad with Astrid, too. She was the perfect test of our whole plan, and he got pissed off with her. Stupid. And then you!” She gestured with the gun and Harper’s breath froze. “You just had to bring the cops here. I tried pushing you down the stairs to shut you up, but you refused to fall. It’s all your fault I’m in this mess.”

Bitch. This woman had tried to kill her! She wanted to scream and rage at Gina, but she knew it wouldn’t get her anywhere. “It was his fault. All that planning you did, and he messed it up. That’s a tough one to swallow.”

“Are you trying to be my friend now?” Gina waved the gun again with a demented chuckle.

“Just trying to find out the whole plan for Astrid.” She told the truth. Gina was too smart to believe her lies.

“Astrid wanted to have fun. To stay at the Manor for the summer and experience life. That’s what she said. He saw her at The Clam Shack and was smitten. Chose her to be our guinea pig. I told him a local girl was not a good choice, but the stubborn man wouldn’t listen. So she came here and then got upset. He lost his temper and killed her. She was supposed to go out through the tunnel to the boat waiting on the beach, but the storm fucked all that up. She was here too long and started to panic.”

“So… Astrid panicked and he killed her. Calli tried to blackmail you and him and he killed her? Is that what happened? Who is it? Who ishe?”

“I thought you’d never ask,” a voice said as it came out of the shadows. Harper hadn’t heard him coming up the stairs. He came out from behind Gina. Harper’s mouth went dry. Richard Lockerby was also holding a gun.

“Yes, it’s me. And yes, I have a temper. It did get the better of me a few times lately but I’m trying to keep it under control.” He glanced at Gina. Her eyes were wide and her hand shook.

“Get over there with Harper.” He gestured with the gun. “Oh, and you can leave your gun on the floor.

Gina bent down slowly and dropped the gun. Then she walked over to stand beside Harper. Her whole body shook.

“In my defense, things did not go smoothly, and I hate when that happens, don’t I, Gina?” The other woman nodded. “Like last night for instance. Gina was supposed to help me with something but I couldn’t find her, so I had to ask Payton. Poor girl had no idea what she was getting into. She’s still alive by the way, Gina. Couldn’t kill her yet. Too many bodies. But I have plans for her. She’s too hurt to leave the hotel. I’ll get her later.”

He waved his gun again, finger wrapped around the trigger.

Harper prayed the safety was on.

Lockerby sighed dramatically. “But you, you were supposed to help me. I don’t like being let down.” His eyes went flat and Harper’s knees wobbled.

She deeply regretted not waiting for Flynn.Flynnshe thought, where are you?
