Asking Elouise if she would like to come to the charity dinner tonight with us seemed like a good idea to help Victoria with all the nerves. Ones that I’m sure will have her tripping over, spilling drinks, and saying all the wrong things. Not that I care one bit if they happen, but I do worry about how much it would upset her if she was plastered all over the internet over something stupid.

I needed Elouise to understand what she was walking into, being associated with me and everyone around me. I explained how her life will change and may never be her own again, but just like my girlfriend, she told me she didn’t give a flying fuck what other people do. She would be there to support her best friend and her best friend’s boyfriend. They are two ballsy women, and together, I doubt they would let much get past them.

Victoria was so excited last night when I brought it up just as they were saying goodbye. They then continued the conversation while FaceTiming the whole car ride home that Elouise had with Wallace.Oh, that poor man, was all I could think. I bet he hasn’t had to put up with that the whole time he has worked for this family, but I have a feeling he will need to get used to having women around him, and crazy ones at that.

Mind you, I am starting to regret agreeing to go to this dinner now. I have been standing in the living room of my city apartment where we decided to get ready, because it is closer to the venue, for the past thirty minutes after I was kicked out of the bedroom so Victoria could get dressed. If I’m going out tonight, then there was no point hiding at the estate until the last minute. Plus, I wanted to show Victoria where I live normally, because I’m hoping she will be spending most of her time here with me going forward.

At one point, I stalked down the hallway and knocked on the door to remind her we would be late if she didn’t hurry up, to which I got screamed at to leave and “Don’t you dare open the door,” and that she would just be five minutes. Looking at my watch, that was fifteen minutes ago, and I’m getting worked up because she knows I hate to be late. I’m about to walk down there and carry her to the car, ready or not, but as I look up from my watch, I hear the soft click of heels coming down the hallway toward me. She has me absolutely stunned by the beautiful vision before me.

“Victoria …” My mouth is dry, and every fiber of my body is on fire.

Standing before me is the woman of my dreams, no matter what she wears, but tonight she is ready to rock the world and arrive in style.

A long, very fitted, black satin dress hugs every one of her curves that I worship daily. It has a split up her right leg that has me salivating at what I would love to do with that access to her body.

The black has her deep red hair shimmering and lighting up her smile. There is a silver necklace full of sparkle around her neck that I want to replace with real diamonds and let the world know she’s mine. And her sparkly bag and shoes set off the outfit.

“I didn’t think you would want me in purple,” she says, her voice so hesitant. She has no idea how stunning she looks or what she is doing to my body.

“Oh, beautiful lady, you are perfect. So perfect.”

Walking toward her, I take her hand and slowly turn her in front of me.

“Black is your color, it reminds me of the devil in you. All night I will be reminded of what a bad girl you are and how I will be ready to punish you later for making me hard as stone with your beauty.”

Taking her hand, I start to walk to the elevator, mumbling under my breath, “I’m firing Lucy. She’s too good at her job. I told her to make you feel beautiful.”

“And I do.” Victoria starts to giggle as I place my hand on her lower back and walk through the open doors of my private elevator.

“But I didn’t tell her to make you look like sin so I have to fight every man in the room tonight. She will pay for this on Monday.”

And Victoria will pay for her flirting with me that I know is coming, later tonight.

Let her into your life, my mother said. Well, the pain in my cock tonight will be a reminder of why I always thought it was such a bad idea.

This woman’s beauty will kill me before the night is out. That I’m certain of!

ChapterTwenty-One

VICTORIA

“Why do they make these stupid shapewears so tight? I feel like I’m about to pop like a balloon, and it will not be a pretty sight,” I whisper to Lou in the back of the limo that Nicholas ordered for tonight. Because how else do you arrive to some big flashy red-carpet affair?

All the guys are with us, since they figured that arriving as a united front would take the heat off Nicholas and me. Lou looks stunning in her navy gown. She asked Lucy for something simple so she wouldn’t stand out in the crowd, but there is no way that she paid any attention. The dress is a classic style, with shoestring straps, fitted at the waist, and with a full skirt that falls from there. But with her brown hair and pale English skin, it really makes her beautiful face pop. It’s no wonder Flynn can’t keep his eyes off her.

“I bet some man invented these things just to torture us, because he knew we would buy anything to try to make ourselves look like all the perfect women out there.” Lou is not good at whispering when she is nervous, and the look on Nicholas’s face tells me he heard that.

“You are both ‘perfect,’ and I’ll take on anyone who tells you different.” His words are straight to the point, and I know he means it by his tone. With no intention of keeping his voice down, the others all stare at both Lou and me.

“Umm, you both look hotter than any of the women who will be in that room.” Flynn makes direct eye contact with Lou. I need to watch him. He is a player and totally wrong for her. But then, I would never have thought Nicholas would be right for me either, so maybe I just need to sit back and watch. Not something I’m great at doing. Especially when it comes to Lou and me. We are up in each other’s business twenty-four seven, but that’s what good friends do, we take care of each other.

Nicholas groans under his breath, clearly making it known he doesn’t like Flynn commenting about my looks, but he won’t say anything because he wants Lou to feel confident walking into the room.

My hands are sweaty from nerves, but I don’t want to let Nicholas know how much I feel like I want to pass out. This is a big thing for him. There are so many reasons I need to make the right impression. He wants to get the public opinion on his side and continue to show that he is a good person, but I know more importantly, he has never stepped out with a woman on his arm that means more to him than he knows how to cope with. Especially with the current drama where he is trying to protect me, his image, and everything around him. The pressure is immense, and it’s taking its toll.

I’ve seen him broody but not like this. Tonight is a lot for him, and I’ll be damned if I let him take on my nerves too. Pull yourself together, Victoria, your man needs you. Don’t let him down.

“Remind me again why we can’t have a drink in here? Isn’t that the point of these big poncy cars, that the party starts early?” Flynn lifts the lid on the secret fridge that contains a variety of drinks.
