Edward walks around to me and releases my wrist from the bed. “I assume you have chosen my son. No second thought after all this?”

“Yes sir. No sir,” I grin confidently. “I mean yes, I've chosen him, and no, I haven't changed my mind.”

“May I bring his mother around to meet you tonight?”

“Uh, guests tonight? Is he up for visitors so soon?” My hand reaches for Knox's. “We're going to be very busy. We're handcuffing each other to the bed.”

“There's to be no sex, at least for the next few days,” the doctor corrects me.

“Oh. We are completely free for the next few days.”

“Trust me, his mother will wait on him hand and foot in this condition.”

“Father!” Knox scolds.

“Just you try to keep her away when she hears you've been shot.”

“It's an excuse to ask Gladys to make some of her amazing cupcakes.” Knox adds.

“I'm all the excuse she'll ever need to make them again,” I quip.

Come on, I flirt with men like Knox and Eddie for a living.

I did.

Past tense.

That was before I stabbed my boss and witnessed his murder.

“Oh, and I'm gonna need that knife back.” I am an accessory to murder, and it doesn't feel like a good thing.

“Knife?” Knox answers innocently.

“Yep. I collect all the knives after I stab people with them. This brings my total up to… One.” If either of these men think I'm letting a big bad mafia boss keep evidence like that to use against me, they really don't know me.

“I'll get it right over once my team has finished the clean-up. We don't leave any DNA, no exceptions. Both sites will be cleaned thoroughly, I promise you.”

“Sounds great.” I will have to take his word for it. I know nothing about the things they do, and I want to keep it that way.

“OK, great, thanks. Can I please go home now?” Knox groans impatiently.

That isn't as easy as the doctor first implied. First Eddie has to fetch new clothes for Knox. He returns too promptly to have left, so either he keeps spares in his car, or there is a Knox sized naked person wandering around. I honestly want to believe the latter. Then we have to get him to the car. Big men and a wheelchair sort that one. Chauffeur driven cars take everyone away, luckily it's just me and Knox heading to his mansion.

Freddie is waiting as the car pulls up at the large front door. I've never entered this way before, not without a bag over my head anyway.

“Mr Thayer, I almost didn't believe it,” Freddie gasps as he opens the door.

“It's all Porter's fault,” Knox teases me with a smile. “A lifetime of pent up worry is now gone, and all I have is a small scar to show for it.”

“Chick's dig scars,” I shrug. “They'll all love you at your clubs.”

“Oh. And what about naughty boys?”

“Naughty boys love your scars very much, but you're not allowed to show them.”

“Good lord. Listen to you both. Today really was life changing.”

“Were you really going to come back to me?” Knox reaches for my hand.
