“Knox? Where are you?” Yelling for him is quicker than searching every room.
“He's in the office,” Freddie replies. He walks across the hall and knocks on one of the doors.
“Not now,” Knox calls.
“Please, this is important.” I open the door and burst in. “I'm sorry. This is urgent.”
Knox stands up and suddenly Mum is the last thing on my mind. He isn't crying, but it's as close as Knox is possible. My hand drops from my face as I rush around.
“What is it?” What on earth has my sister done?
“Caeo went round to check on Nico for you.”
“And? What happened?”
“It's Gavriil. He's been shot.” Knox looks me dead in the eyes. “The only fingerprints on the gun are Nico's, and he's missing.”
“Mum, I'll have to call you back, OK?” I've hung up before she even answers. Whatever Annie is planning can wait.
