"What you know about me?" I take the bait; I'll never get a chance to ask her once I hand her to whichever cartel boss wants her.

"You are such a simple little child."

"I'm not child."

"You are a funny thing. A boy without a father, and so many men doing you a kindness."

"I have Gavriil. I did have, anyway."

"You did. One man who pays you in love, rather than money."

"Love? You know not a thing." I wouldn't say Gavriil loved me. He loved what I offered him in the way of better gambling and better standing in the family. He stopped dealing with the immigration after he had me. But he didn't love me.

"I was curious why they all cared so much," Tiffany goes on.

"Who is other men?"

"One is Knox. But he isn't old enough to be your father, so I'm not so sure why he cares so much."

"He does not care about me. He is not father. My father is random man from Romania. A pub in the night my mama says."

"Then why do you get a monthly wage from both Knox and Edward Thayer?"

"Ah, you is all full of shit." They give me things, not money. I complain about my trousers, they get me new ones, I ask for pizza, a delivery turns up at Gavriil's house. They don't give me cash.

"Yeah, it doesn't make sense, does it. But then, that Caeo fella also pays, so then I was thinking he was your father."

"Mr Caeo is a nice man." He is a generous man. I don’t even need to ask him for things. Twice a year, he replaces my entire wardrobe with larger clothes. He never forgets me on my birthday and Christmas, but the man barely says two words to me.

"A nice man who's been paying child support for the last six years." Tiffany tries baiting me with her information, but she has her sources wrong. No one gives me love or money.

"No. No one pay. Unless they hand it to Gavriil. He gamble everything away."

"Into your back account, you special little idiot."

"I don't have one."

"You do."

How could I have a bank account if I'm the illegal immigrant everyone claims I am. I've had that term dangled over my head since I arrived here.

"You speak lies." The bitch must be playing with me.

"I could prove it."

"I don't give a shit." Whatever I was before, I am not now. The only proof I want is directly from the mouths of the men in question. But I could never ask. Are you secretly paying me money while watching me live in utter poverty? She must think these men are stupid. "You will go to your brother or your father."

"If they do what you want them to do." She laughs like a witch. "Don't think you are powerful enough to play with these men, little boy."

"I know some men I am well and good to play with." That idea brings a smile to my face. What a wonderful idea. For the moment while the thought fills my head, I feel quite my old self. I am on very good terms with Gavriil's Russian buddies. They would really enjoy getting their hands on her.

"What?" Tiffany frowns.

Clearly my old expression is back too.

"Your papa and brother will not treat you right. They will care too much."

"Blood is thicker than water, little boy."
