“I do. Even if that court case in America doesn’t keep the press fully engaged, my parents have some contingency plans in place to misdirect their attention.
“You’re really going to marry me?”
“I really am. I love you beyond words, Freddy.”

It’s my twenty-week ultrasound and Pippa chose to join us.
Can you tell whether they’re boys or girls, or maybe one of each?” I ask the tech as she slides the probe over my belly.
“I’ll try, but no promises.”
“I thought we were going to leave it as a surprise,” Freddy says.
I look over at Pippa and grin. “We were, but Pippa wants to know.”
“That’s right, Daddy. I have a lot of big sistering to do, and I need to plan.”
The tech has been so kind to Pippa, pointing out various baby parts on the monitor.
A little while later, when the ultrasound is over, the tech presses a button, and the machine starts spitting out a ribbon of photos like at the photo-booth the three of us squeezed into when we went to London.
“Congratulations! It appears you are going to have a brotheranda sister,” she says as she hands them to Pippa.
“I had kind of accepted that I might be stuck with a baby brother, but since he comes with a sister, I can deal. And Daddy will still be outnumbered.”
I pull my husband and daughter into a group hug. “Indeed, he will."
They hug me back.
I am so loved, and so grateful that I changed my mind about getting involved with a dad. This family means the absolute world to me.
