“I don’t think that would solve the problem,” Dante added, watching Xander get up in Jesse’s face. Something about the way they argued was not like it was with the rest of the brothers in the club.

Sage stepped out of the SUV and Dante remembered her feet.

“Avery, get a pair of boots for Sage. Her feet are torn up. And the first aid kit,” Dante barked.

Avery and Sonny headed inside together.

Sage hobbled over to the steps and shook off Dante’s attempt at help. “Don’t touch me. I’m perfectly capable of helping myself.”

“Why are you being such a pain in the ass? Take the help. Your feet are still bleeding for fuck’s sake!”

Sage sighed and finally relented.

Dante scooped her up into his arms and carried her bridal style up the stairs, but not without a fight.

“Let me down!” Sage hissed as her face turned bright red.

“Just shut it,” Dante fired back and ignored her attempt to break free as he walked up the steps.

Xander stopped yelling at Jesse when he spotted Sage and Dante.

“Well, well, are congrats in order? Did you two get married on the way home from the Flamingo?” Xander teased.

Dante tripped on the last step and nearly lost his balance – and his hold on Sage - but he managed to stay upright. Sage tightened her grip around his neck.

“Once I get Sage safely inside, I’m gonna come back out and kick your ass,” Dante warned Xander, who just laughed and grabbed Jesse, pulling him along.

Dante stomped into the living room and placed Sage gently on one of the sectionals. Avery returned with the first aid kit in one hand and a bowl of water in the other and handed both over to Jesse. Jesse was their resident medic, for the guys and their brood of dogs. Going to the doctor or the hospital was a last resort. Too many questions.

“Soak ‘em for a few. Then I’ll clean them with alcohol, check for splinters, and bandage them up. You’ll be better in no time.”

“Thanks Jesse,” Sage replied as she placed her feet in the water, letting out a hiss. She reached into her jacket and pulled out the phones. “And Xander, over to you.”

Xander palmed the phones. “I can’t wait to see what’s on here.”

“Sage drugged three of them and grabbed their shit,” Dante added.

“I’m impressed.”

Sage passed over a fourth phone. “And here’s my phone. I took pictures of Padraig’s cabin and their clubhouse. Not sure if anything is useful but it’s worth a look.”

Xander gave Sage a once over and smiled at her. “You are somethin’ else.”

Dante smacked Xander on the back of his head. “No. Get to work.”

“So possessive,” Xander quipped and winked at Sage. “You lucky bitch.”

Sage’s confused expression made Xander laugh harder. “I’ll get working on this. Meantime, you let Dante take care of you.”

“Is he always this annoying?” Sage turned to Avery.

“You ain’t seen nothing yet.” Avery chuckled and pulled Xander out of the room with her.

Jesse set out the first aid kit on the sofa and uncapped the bottle of alcohol. He set a towel on the floor for Sage to dry her feet and then he snapped on latex gloves. Picking up her right foot, he doused it with alcohol, inspected it, then wrapped it up in a bandage. He did the same with her left foot and she got up to walk around. Dante watched for signs of pain on her face, but she smiled at Jesse.

“Thanks, feels better already.”

Jesse nodded. “Keep an eye out for infection. If your skin gets hot and itchy, or you get a rash, let me know.”
