Sage was never so thankful that it was dark out and that she looked nothing like her sister. The last thing she needed was a run-in with the enemy when she was the least prepared.

One day soon, it would happen. Just not yet.

She continued down the road and turned right at the only stoplight in the whole town. The place was quiet on a Saturday night, except for the local diner and bar that looked full up.

The repair shop was at the end of the strip, an old garage that had seen better days.

Her headlights caught on two figures standing outside the shop, and she recognized the men. One was Jesse Hellion, the son of Hellraisers President, Gage.

The other man other was Dante Houlos.

The marine.

Sage had spent a good amount of time researching him. He’d been the member to approach her about the security cameras a while back. Dante had tried to charm her at first, flirting up a storm. She recognized him for what he was.

Sage didn’t have any illusions that she was attractive to him, it was just his natural inclination. She could’ve flirted right back and used sex to get what she wanted. But she still had some pride left. There were other ways for her to ingratiate herself with the club.

And it started with gathering information.

From her hairdresser no less. Gossip was alive and well in small towns. Turns out, Dante flirted and fucked with all the local women, but mainly strippers. And apparently, he had piercings in hidden spots that hit all the right places.

Sage didn’t care about his prowess in bed, but she did want information on the man, so she’d take what she could get. The salon was a goldmine of gossip and she visited on a biweekly basis for a blowout and not because she needed her hair done. Some of the talk was true, a lot of it was exaggerated. But she did what she did best and listened, gathering intel.

It helped her form a better picture of the man, in addition to what she’d dug up on the internet.

She slowed the truck to a crawl and parked in front of the shop.

Dante handed a package to Jesse, who took off on his bike like his ass was on fire.

Interesting.

And given that she’d just seen a rival crew drive out of town, there must be something going on.

Sage got out of the car and waved at him. After that close encounter with Padraig, her palms were damp, so she rubbed them on her jeans and gave a friendly smile.

“Hey, are you done for the night?” she asked.

Dante sauntered closer and nodded, the piercing in his eyebrow and nose glinting under the streetlight. His thick black hair was shaved on the sides and longer on top, with a stray lock falling over his left eye. Dark brown eyes surveyed every inch of her, so much so that Sage had to fight the instinct to fidget.

“Yeah, I’m locking up. What’s going on?”

“You couldn’t hear my muffler from the other side of town?” she quipped.

“I heard it, but I like to let a woman tell me what she wants rather than just making an assumption.”

His comment was accompanied by a smirk.

Sage forced herself not to let out an eye roll. Dante wanted to add another notch to his bedpost.

It would be a cold day in hell before that happened.

“The muffler needs replacing, and that’s probably just the start. I bought this truck as a backup for my ranch hands and I need it fixed soon,” Sage replied and crossed her arms. “Can you work on it this weekend?”

Dante smiled at her and drew in closer, rounding the hood of her blue chevy.

“I can get to it on Monday if you leave it here tonight. Best I can do.”

“That works.”
