“You agreed to partner with us. What did you think we were gonna do? Just look at your war room and leave it be?”

“You could’ve asked me first,” she snapped.

“Would you have said yes?” Dante raised one eyebrow.

Sage sighed and shook her head.

“Whatever. I have no secrets anymore. The only thing I care about is the truth. And getting my hands on the person who killed Rosemary.”

It was a fact, from Rosemary’s behavior shortly before her death, that her sister was afraid of Padraig. He had all the motive, especially given that Rosemary threatened to give away his secrets.

Padraig might not have physically ended Rosemary’s life himself, but someone in his crew, someone close to him, did. On his orders. Everything they had uncovered to date made it clear to Sage.

Dante’s phone buzzed and he looked down at it.

“It’s Xander. He needs our help. ASAP.”

SAGE

Sage and Dante quickly dressed and headed out of the cottage.

When they got to the clubhouse, the kitchen was buzzing with members. Eating, talking, and swearing up a storm. Everyone was pissed about Gage and what was going on with the arson investigation.

Sage kept her mouth shut about her sister’s death. Crew members would revolt if Gage was thrown down in a murder investigation too.

Rochelle and Nate greeted Sage and Dante and offered them cups of coffee and a basket of donuts. Sage needed the caffeine and the carbs. She stuffed one donut in and watched Dante do the same. Then he handed her another one.

“Eat, you missed several meals yesterday.”

“I don’t know—”

“Eat.”

“So bossy.”

“You like it. You like me.” Dante echoed her words.

“Shut up.”

Nate coughed. “Xander’s in his office. He said he wants to see you right away.”

Taking their mugs and the basket of sweets, Sage following Dante down the hallway to the last room on the left. When she stepped inside, she was taken aback by the sheer volume of computer equipment, stacked from floor to ceiling. It looked more like a corporate server room than a biker room hangout.

Xander was sitting at a desk in the middle, facing them, with his headphones on, his head down, typing away. When he looked up and spotted them, he slid off his headset and waved them in.

“Hey guys,” Xander nodded and gave Sage a flirty smile. “You two look…fucked out.”

“Fuck off,” Dante growled in return and sat down on one of the leather chairs. “Talk.”

Xander’s expression turned serious, and he got up and walked over to close the door.

“What’s going on?” Sage asked.

“I’ve been up most of the night going through the phones you got from the Carnage crew,” Xander replied as he walked back to his desk and sat down.

He ran a hand over his dark scruff and only then did Sage notice how tired the man was. There were dark circles under his eyes and a paleness to his skin that spoke of stress. Despite his model perfect profile, he was as worked up as the rest of his crew.
