Sage shook her head. “I honestly don’t know anymore. Rosemary idolized Blane, but the reverse didn’t hold true. And he talks about her with contempt. I thought it was just his way of dealing with grief but now I don’t know. He’s successful and charming when it suits him. And manipulative when he wants something bad enough.”

“Would you be open to setting up a phone call with him? Get him to talk? We’d record it.”

Sage nodded and finished her drink. With a shaky hand, she placed the glass on the table in front of her. “I need to know. If Blane had anything to do with Rosemary’s death, I—”

More tears erupted and Dante pulled her to him tightly.

He kissed her head. “It’s okay, baby, everything is gonna be okay.”

“How can it ever be okay? My entire family is all but gone! First my parents, then my sister, and now Blane might be—”

“It could be that he owes Midnight money, but we don’t know that he’s involved with Rosemary’s death,” Dante offered.

Sage didn’t reply. Instead, she buried her head on Dante’s chest and sobbed.

She was breaking his fucking heart. The one he thought he’d buried years ago.

“Let me do a deep dive on Blane, including his whereabouts in April,” Xander offered. “Meanwhile, you reach out to him and set up a time to talk.”

Sage pulled away from Dante and nodded. “That sounds like a plan.”

“Lie down on the couch and take a nap,” Dante directed. “I’m going to visit the bunker and see if our guests recognize Blane’s name.”

Sage leaned back and Dante stood up.

She closed her eyes and curled into the cushions. Dante grabbed the blanket on the back of the couch and placed it over her.

Once Sage was tucked in, he glanced over at Xander and Jesse.

“What?” he barked out.

Both of his brothers held their hands up.

Jesse stood up and made for the door. “I’m not saying a word, D. I still can’t believe what I’m fucking seeing.”

“Looks like whatever Sonny and Avery have is contagious,” Xander teased. “I just hope I don’t catch it.”

Dante gave him a middle finger. “Get to work.”

Xander’s expression darkened. “I got a bad feeling about this, D. Her brother and Midnight? That’s fucked up.”

“It is. But let’s find out how bad first,” Dante replied. “Keep an eye on her for me.”

“Of course.”

Xander nodded and turned back to his laptop.

Dante left the clubhouse and headed for the bunker. He texted Sonny to meet him outside.

When Dante arrived, Sonny was outside, smoking a cigarette.

“Smoking again? I thought you quit?” Dante asked.

“No way. Not since I got me a girlfriend and a kid on the way. I love her, man, but this shit is hard.”

“And by shit, you mean—”

“You know.”
