“Better you than me,” Jackson teased and pushed back his hat. “I’m never gonna do any kind of relationship. Yuck.”

Sonny shook his head. “Smart.”

“I heard that,” Avery yelled out and gave Sonny the finger.

Sonny sighed and headed over to his woman. Then the bickering began, and Dante rolled his eyes.

Good luck with that, Sonny.

Dante noticed Gage entering the barn. He signaled for everyone to gather round.

Dante took a few strides but was stopped by a hand on the shoulder.

He turned to find Sage, her expression pissed.

“What?” he snapped.

“Were you just going to leave without saying anything?” she bit out.

“What do you want me to say? ‘Hey, I’m gonna go kill some bikers and then I’ll be back for Sunday dinner?’”

Sage shook her head, her hair sliding over her shoulder. Dante remembered how it felt on his skin and suddenly, the air was thicker with a different kind of tension.

She stepped up to him, not saying another word, and kissed him.

In front of all the crew.

And not just a peck on the lips, but a full assault on his mouth. Without hesitation, he kissed her back, their tongues tangling, heated breaths mingling. Everything in his body was on fire and Dante welcomed the burn.

The noise around them stopped.

And that’s when Sage pulled back.

Leaving Dante with swollen lips and a hard-on that he couldn’t hide.

Jeers and hollers rang out but he ignored them in favor of gripping Sage’s waist and hauling her back against his body.

“I’ve done this many times before.”

“I realize that but I… I care about you,” Sage admitted, her voice low and husky. “I know it sounds crazy, but—”

“I know. Same.” That was as close as Dante would probably ever get to an admission. It would have to do. “You work with Xander and Jesse to get your brother here so we can put this thing to rest. I’ll see you in a few hours.”

Dante gave her one last kiss and then, reluctantly, let her go.

He walked away and didn’t turn back, but he felt her gaze on him.

And her being here, that kiss, it gave him something he didn’t realize he’d needed.

It gave him a reason to come home.

Sage

Was it possible to fall in love with a man so quickly? Someone who was as different from you as night and day?

Yes. Yes, it was.

And she didn’t have any urge to fight it. Even if he never felt the same way, she wouldn’t change anything.
