The water dripped from my hair and down our faces as I fastened my mouth to his. Holding his jaw with both hands, I poured everything I was into the kiss.

Our mouths fused. He pressed my back to the icy wall, lowering me down inch by inch onto his hardness.

I shuddered and rotated my hips in slow circles, greedy to feel every inch of him inside me. He braced us against the tile and pushed in and out of me. The pace of his hard thrusts left me breathless. He groaned my name into my mouth.

His hands dug into my ass, kneading the flesh. I clung to him, looking for more. Closer. Deeper. Harder. More of him. I dug my nails into his arms, urging him on.

He hitched my legs higher, hitting a new, more sensitive depth. I tore my mouth from his and cried out his name. He fastened his lips to my hard nipple and sucked. I writhed in his arms, my slick skin slipping over the cold wall at my back. I clenched around his erection as the first wave of pleasure burned through me.

With his head tipped back, he pistoned in and out of me and growled my name in time to the punishing thrusts that were driving him to his end.

“No more goodbyes, angel.” He clutched me to him, his body rigid as he came.

Chapter 39

Derek

“Istillcan’tbelievehe was wearing the watches.” Lee looked at me from her spot at the conference table. We were waiting for John, Quinn, and Steel to join us. Her hair was still wet from our shower, her clothes a little wrinkled from time spent on the steamy bathroom floor. She’d never looked better.

It had taken a little doing, but I’d convinced her to come for a face-to-face with everyone at The Smith Agency. She was concerned about their opinions of her and of us. She’d tried to angle for a conference call, throwing all the excuses she could think of at me. Until I told her I was worried for her safety and that if she didn’t come with me, I’d bring a full security team to her store.

“He doesn’t know anyone is watching.” I pressed a bottle of water and a power bar toward her. She should put something in her empty stomach.

“I’m still coming to terms with you running surveillance on Tony.” She opened the water and looked askance at the food.

“It was step one.”

“And step two?”

“John has a plan. That’s why you and Onyx are here. It’s safe in our building. There’s a small apartment where you can sleep. Oh, and be ready. Quinn will try to dog-nap Onyx.”

“I’m not staying here.” She looked around like she expected three goons to jump out and tie her to the chair.

“Don’t rush to decide. Wait until you hear what John has to say. He’s helped topple governments and brought down warlords. He has a plan.”

And so did I. I planned to keep her in this building. It was a fucking fortress that I guarded. Once John kicked the hornet’s nest and got things in motion, Lee would have Tony and Uncle Jimmy gunning for her. As long as she was here, anyone coming after her would have to go through me and my team.

Part of me hoped Tony would come. I flexed my fist. It would feel so good to punch that asshole. I pushed away my violent thoughts and picked up her hand. I kissed her knuckles and tangled our fingers together.

Our reunion in the shower had helped ease some of the rough edges and angry raw bits her goodbye had caused. But there was more for us to talk about. This time around, we were doing it for real. But that was a conversation for another day. Touching her was enough.

“I can call Uncle Jimmy, tell him everything, and end this.” She almost sounded like she was pouting.

“That is exactly my plan, Ms. Vance. We are going to call Jimmy Delgatto. But we will carefully control the information we give him.” John walked to where we sat and extended his hand. “I’m John Smith.”

They shook and took each other’s measure. It always amazed me how John could change his demeanor. He gave Lee an affable smile that made him look like everyone’s favorite cousin. I knew better.

Quinn and Steel were right behind him. They introduced themselves and took seats at the table.

John waited for everyone to settle in, then zeroed in on Lee. “Ms. Vance, I don’t take criminals as clients. But Derek thinks you would like to retire from your very lucrative career as a fence. Is he correct?”

The beat of silence before she answered nearly killed me.

“Yes.” She imbued the one word with all the longing of a lifetime. Her reply squashed my last lingering fears that I’d overstepped.

John studied her and nodded. “Fine, then I can help you. But be aware that Jimmy, Tony, and other members of the Delgatto crime family may end up in jail. I’ll do what I can to limit the blowback, but you’re going head-to-head with men that feel no remorse. If you’re going to change your mind, do it now. Because after we play our opening gambit, your life could be forfeit if you don’t follow through.”

“I understand. Commitment won’t be a problem.” She squared her shoulders and leaned forward, hanging on John’s words. His warning hadn’t scared her in the least. The woman had a spine of steel.
