“Fine.” She smiles before climbing on top of me. “You’re fun to rile up.”

“Can you not?”

“No.” She smiles and leans down to brush her lips against mine. “Because you like it.”

Avery’s been gone for about an hour and I’m packing up to leave when I get a text from her.

Avery: I’m home and showered without a ton of questions from anyone so all good. I’m going to take a nap. I’ll probably see you later?

Me: Good and I’m sure. Looking forward to it.

Avery: *heart eye emoji*

After checking out, I call Lucas wondering if he’s hungry and wants to go get breakfast. Breakfast is our favorite meal of the day—Raegan’s too—and there were so many Sundays that we went out for it.Many times, with Avery in tow. She’s an only child and in the beginning, I think she was lonely so she was always around, and then when Lucas started developing feelings for her, he dragged her with him everywhere he went.

“What?” he groans through the phone and I chuckle because when Lucas is hungover, he is fucking useless.

“How you feeling, champ?”

“Like shit. We did way too many shots. Why are you calling me?”

This little fucker.“Want to run that by me again?”

“I mean why don’t you just come in my room?” He explains.

“I’m not home yet,” I tell him and I wonder if he even remembers our conversation.

“Oh, where are you?” he asks with a yawn. “I vaguely remember this. You have a girlfriend?”

“I don’t have a girlfriend.”

“You only answered one of my questions.”

“Because it is the only one I’m answering. I was out, that’s all you need to know. Do I call you in New York asking where you are?”

“Scuse me.”

“So, I assume you’re too hungover to get food?”

“Hmmmm.” He groans. “Maybe when you get here, I’ll feel differently. We don’t haveHazy Morningsin New York and I could go for some bacon and a bloody Mary.”

“Aren’t you hungover?”

“Aren’t you familiar with hair of the dog?”

“Okay.” I chuckle.

“I’m going to call Ave to see if she wants to come.”

The words that she’s taking a nap are almost out of my mouth before I stop them.Fuck, I am not good at this and it’s going to get us caught if I’m not careful.“Sure. I’m going to call your sister. Did she even show up last night?”

“No, she ended up texting Avery that she wasn’t feeling well. She thinks she has the flu.”

“Oh, I’ll call her. See you in a bit.”

Raegan doesn’t answer when I call her and I narrow my eyes at my phone.Sick or not, she better get back to me in a timely manner or I’m showing up at her house.

Twenty minutes later, I’m pulling into my driveway and my eyes immediately flit to the house next door with the delusional hope that I’ll see Avery even though I know she’s asleep in her bedroom.
