I blinked. "Just thinking about that lecture this morning," I lied.

The one advantage of studying the same degree as my sister was getting to talk about it with her. Often she helped to put things into perspective for me. I did the same for her, but that couldn't be helped.

Chloe groaned. "It was so boring. Is there anything more dry than marketing and economics?"

"Your pussy?" I teased.

She grimaced at me. "I'm not discussing my pussy with you. I don't want to talk about yours either," she added quickly. "I certainly don't want to know if it's full of Brantley cum."

"Jealous?" I raised a perfectly shaped eyebrow at her.

"Why would I be jealous?" she asked. "It means I have a better chance of taking over from Dad. As soon as he finds out you’re fucking them, all bets will be off."

That was a possibility I'd considered. The rivalry between the two families was vicious at times. My father wouldn’t approve of me speaking to them, much less taking them to my bed.

However, as far as I was concerned, the bad blood was between my father and Reuben Brantley. That shit didn’t have to continue with our generation. Hunter and Parker had skills I could make use of, including two skilled tongues and equally skilled cocks. If having a relationship with them put me on the back foot with Dad…I'd just have to work that much harder to get ahead of my sister.

I shrugged one shoulder and pushed my hair back off my face. "Dad will understand. Better than he’ll understand you fucking Dane DiMarco. The DiMarco family has no power anymore." Some of them liked to think they did, but in the end they all answered to my father or Reuben Brantley. "How old is he anyway? Forty?"

She glared at me. "He's thirty-four. He's not that much older than me."

I leaned over the table towards her. "Why don't you step aside now? You and Mr D could get married and have a bunch of cute little babies, and leave me to do the real work. Imagine, you could be the wife of a history teacher." If that was all the ambition she had, she had no business competing with me.

"You know as well as I do Dane doesn't want to spend the rest of his life teaching history," she snapped. "He's going to stand by my side when I'm head of the Bell family."

She gave me a venomous smile. "What will you be doing? Spreading your legs for Reuben Brantley's minion brothers? Neither of them will ever have any real power. But you already know that. Honestly, I can't help thinking you're trying to sabotage yourself. Which is fine with me. Maybeyoushould step aside right now."

"I will never step aside willingly," I said coldly. "And I won't let you beat me. It will be Hunter and Parker at my side." I hesitated for a moment. "Or maybe Mr D will change allegiance to me when he realises you're going to lose."

I smiled to myself at the look of doubt in her eyes. I had no interest in Dane DiMarco, but whatever it took to get to her, I'd do it.

CHAPTER4

LILA

The knock on my bedroom door came early. It always did when it was the twins. All the better for catching people off-guard, according to Hunter.

"Are you decent?" Parker called out through the door.

I struggled to tell them apart at times, but I always knew which twin was which from their voice. Chloe claimed that was bullshit, but I'd never been wrong yet.

"Yeah," I called out. "Come in."

"Shame," Parker said as he stepped into the room, followed by Hunter. "We were hoping to find you naked, lying on your bed waiting for us."

He stepped up behind me and looked at our reflections in the mirror. He cupped my cheeks with his hands before sliding them up my face and tangling his fingers in my hair.

It was almost unfair how good-looking both of them were. One of them that hot would have been unfair, but two? I'd only seen photos of the rest of the family, but all of their brothers were good-looking. Even Reuben, if I was honest with myself.

He and I would make an interesting alliance, if I went there, which I wouldn't. Two Brantley brothers was enough for me.

"What part about that wouldn't be decent?" I teased.

"Good point." Parker gripped my hair and pulled my head back so I was looking up at him. He kissed me with his face upside down from mine. His nose tickled my chin. The stubble from his chin teased the tip of my nose. "Maybe we should stay in tonight instead?"

"I'm not saying that's not a good idea," Hunter drawled. He lay back on my bed and crossed his legs. "But we all know what tonight is. We don't want to miss it, do we?"

He leaned his head against my headboard and looked at us questioningly like he had all the time in the world. If people had past lives, he was definitely a cat. Lazing around in the sun all day, ripping unsuspecting smaller animals apart at night.
